I posted this in the interior/exterior forum and had no luck with responses, so I thought I would try it here. Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

I have just purchased the factory 7 pin wiring harness and hope to install it over the holidays. Before purchasing it, I thought everything would just be plug and play, but after looking at the directions, it looks like I have to make a wire splice, drill into the frame, and run the brake control wire through the floorboard. I also noticed that the instructions have no writing at all in them and they are just pictures. Can anyone help me out with the following questions?

Does anyone have any pointers on making the wire splice in the rear taillight? Will it be obvious which wire I need to splice it into? It looks like they are showing it being soldered together. The only soldering I have done has been on copper pipes. What do I need to use to solder the splice? Can I just splice the wire and tape it good?

How hard is it to run the break control wire? Is it obvious where that is supposed to go through in the floorboard? Where should I leave the wire so it is out of the way once I run it through? Any tips on running this wire?

I know this is a long post with several questions, but any help you can give me is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Last one i did was on a durango 99' I bought a mounting bracket for the plug as for the splice in the tail lite it's always best to solder and seal but you can get a way with a blue wire tap and seal it good against the elements. As for the rest of wire they run up the frame rail into engine bay I believe red to battery positive side, white to neg side battery , blue through fire wall to brake lite switch switch depressed side also you probably have a plug under dash to use for a trailer brake control harness witch you can purchase at any auto parts store. Hope this helps and info is accurate as it's been awhile.

curtb, thanks for the reply. I hooked the harness up today and just used one of the plastic blue wire tap connectors to make the splice. I happened to have one in my building, so I thought I would give it a shot. If it doesn't work well, I will go back and do the soldering bit. I do still have a question about the blue wire through the fire wall. The directions had no writing (just pictures), and it looked like they were showing the blue wire just being run through the fire wall and then rolled up and strapped out of the way. It didn't show it being connected to anything. Your reply said something about the brake switch. Is that blue wire supposed to be connected to something or is it there in case I want to hook a brake control up later? Thanks for the help.

that is correct if your not going to use a brake controller then just wrap it up out of the way.
