I have a 91 Dodge Ram 50 2.4L Inline 4. I took into into the shop after having some trouble with it the other day. It was buring Oil pretty bad and eventually just started stalling out. It was also making a loud rattling sort of noise.

After taking it in, they pretty much told me my engine was shot and that I would need a new one. They took the stethoscope to it and in about 5 minutes gave me the diagnosis:

-The crank bearings were dry fusing
-This in turn wore the crank bearing out
-Not something I can fix (rebuilding engine or getting parts in)

My questions are:

-Should I seek a second opinion before writting off my engine and seeking a new one?
-Is their anything I can do to fix the engine?
-Any ideas where online I could get a good rebuilt engine for my truck?

Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,

Did it start the excessive oil burning all of a sudden? I can't diagnose your engine troubles as far as what went bad, but I will tell you that any loud clunking that comes from the engine isn't good. If you don't trust the mechanics that you took the truck to I would say get a second opinion. I wish you luck but it doesn't sound good.

It was after a day of highway driving. The next day it started acting up.

Did the engine lose its oil pressure?

No, not that I am aware of.
