need some input. when the neon is idling with lights on and stereo on after a while the electrical idiot light comes on. Turn off the lights it goes away. If engine is not idling no idiot light with everything on. I checked the charge on the battery tonight and its fully charged (no idea where it's at when idiot light comes on) and the alt belt is tight. it has never done this before. ideas?

You're saying the battery light comes on, right? How cold is it up there right now? I know my alternator belt will slip slightly (even though its tight) on cold winter mornings for a bit, kicking the battery light on. I don't think the battery light is just for "low battery" I believe it also comes on if the alternator is trying to charge it but can't (i.e. slipping belt). And of course you're putting more of a load on the alternator with accessories and lights running, giving the belt a greater chance of slipping.

If that's not the case take the car somewhere that can do an in vehicle alternator test, or yank the thing and take it to napa. It sounds like a charging issue of some sort... you'll wanna fix it before your battery dies.

LOL! Do ya think so! LOL! :)

Pulling the alt is such a pain, not the end of the world, but a pain. I guess that's my next step...take into CarQuest and have them check it. Thanks guys.

I think the alt is going out. Has to get the rpms up to make enough juice for your 3000watt stereo.lol In the old days you could replace the brushes inside and it would be fine, don't know if thats a poss.

I think the light will only come on when battery voltage is low

When i bought my '95 the alternator was shot. the stator windings had burnt out or whatever.

I charged the battery for a couple hours and drove it home 12 kilometers. it started and ran fine. after about 3 kilometers the battery light came on. I still made it home no problem but it was starting to spit and sputter pretty good when i arrived home
