Hello,

I am writing in for my son. He has a 2003 Neon SRT4 with 61,000 miles on it. He put in the Mopar Stage II upgrade and his clutch exploded. He drove the car like a normal car with limited high speed use. Has anyone ever had there clutch explode under normal use? I have been driving over 35 years and mostly manual transmissions. I have wore out the clutch, but never had it explode. There is over $11,000 in repairs that need to be done to the car. If you had your clutch explode, please contact my son Brian at Stryker954 at Yahoo dot com. He is looking to start a Class Action Law Suit against Chrysler to fix his and other SRT4's that this has happen to.

Thank You,
Joe

The only clutch explosions I have heard of with stock clutches wewr related to either a clutch slipping during a burnout or a high rpm clutch dump during launch.
What did the clutch take with it when it went?

Being a dad and a hot rodder myself you may want to find out a bit more about when and what was being done when it (the clutch) let go.

We actually have 26 -27 pounds of boost and do launch at 5500 on a two step But the HP-61 turbo dont build boost with that small of a load on it.
But we are running an ACT 6 puck ridgid and Hydrolic throwout bearing
with slicks and DSS stg 5 axels

what do you mean on a two step? and do you spin or hop at all? i have the same turbo but a little smaller, it was custom made hp54

Two step launch control with slicks we do not spin or hop at all but wedo bog oat times we need to raise tire pressure in slicks to allow a bit of spin on launch.

whats two step launch control

A two step is an electronic add on that allows toy to pre set a launch RPM and just floor the pedal as the lights come down at the track it also helps to build some boost at launch by simulating a load on the engine but I am not exactly sure how that is done.

He has his turbo boost set to 20 and it was a normal start, keeping the RPM's around 3000. The transmission came totally apart. When the case came apart it sent scrap metal through wiring harnesses, through the hood and into the radiator. There was also some engine damage. He got the stage 2 upgrade through MOPAR and was installed by the Dodge Dealer. The only thing he modified on the engine was a K&N filter and intake.

Joe did you look at your PMs?

As far as 3k normal that is pretty much a drag race launch rpm. We launched on the stock clutch with 292 hp and 342 tq to the wheels and a 4500 rpm clutch dump on slicks we went through some axles but the clutch was fine when we upgraded even with that abuse. Something aint quite right.
