A friend of mine told me her Caravans DVD player quick after a several hour drive. She smelled a plastic smell about the time it quit.I looked through her owners manual to find the layout of the fuse panel but couldn't find one.The fuses that I checked seemed fine but I would like to know which fuse runs that player.Does anyone have a layout for this describing what fuses work with the different electrical parts of this vehicle?
Would there be such a thing as an inline fuse for the dvd player, afterall I doubt a fuse burning out under the hood would make a smell in the van but who knows?
I'd appreciate any thoughts on this subject as I have no idea what to look for.

Check the fuse for the power outlet. This is under the hood though.

Does she have little kids? My 2 year old has a bad habit of taking coins from the thing between the cup holders and inserting them into the cd/cassette slots. The coins fried our original 4-cd changer, then I upgraded to an '03 factory DVD system I bought on eBay-- the factory DVD player connects into the harness for the power outlet to get its power. I also replaced the cassette radio with a factory 6-cd radio. The cassette radio had over $2 of small change in it and sounded like a piggy bank when I took it out.

Now we don't leave coins there anymore.

Yes,she has twin boys at 5 years of age. I did not see any coins in the console but that doesn't mean it wasn't used for a coin slot.(lol)
Maybe the thing is wore out as she uses it quite regular as the boys watch dvds all the time as she drives.
I'll test the 2 power points to see if they are working as I have no idea which fuse belongs to the power points.I have had the fuse box opened under the hood and nothing in there tells which fuse is which and I couldn't find nothing in the owners manual either.

Look at the fuse box cover. That has a map of the fuses that tells you what is what. It's just molded into the black plastic so its hard to see if the lighting isn't good.

You could remove the DVD player and check the harness for power too. It has a feed for constant + and another feed for ignition-only +. The red wire to the connector is ignition-only + and it gets its feed from the head unit. I can't remember the coloring of the constant +, but I'm sure I could look it up if you want. It is very easy to remove the DVD player (easier to do than to say):

1) pull out the cupholder unit (push the tab at the back so it will come all the way out)

2) Pop off the small piece of trim just above where the cupholder thing was

3) remove two phillips head screws and pull sharply on the metal flange, then work your way around the center trim.

4) the A/C control head and rear wiper switch unit will stay on the trim-- remove their connectors (don't forget to click the red tab on each connector outward to unlock them)

5) remove two phillips head screws that hold in the DVD player-- remove its connectors (no red lock tabs on these--just regular push tabs)

Once you're in there, you can check the power at the connector. If power is present, your DVD player is fried. Give it a shake to see if there's any change in there and use it toward the purchase of a new one on eBay. :D

Thanks for the very descriptive reply. If it was mine I'd try it but after testing all the power sources I believe the dvd is fried.I found the layout of the fuses on the back of the cover and power can be found to everything but the dvd itself.
