Need help with my 85 5.2 318!!! PLEASE!

I JUST Bought it and it started running bad after I got it home and tried to restart it. I really dont know anything about carberators, but it idles low, i adjusted that and it worked for about 3 blocks. then while low idleing I press the gas as light as you can tap it and it dies. when it is running white smoke comes out,(It didn't when I test drove it for 30 min!)......Too much gas? Too much air? Dunno. If you work on these trucks or have any advice then Please HELP!( Its my work truck, an only vehicle!) I live around 70th and Holmes in Kansas City, MO. travisdean07 at yahoocom

Is the truck getting rid of any water? Is the smoke you are seeing smoke or steam? Did the truck run good up until it started this"smoking"?

I noticed water dripping a little by the driver door, and the smoke is pretty thick

but yes it started more than usual smoke when it started running bad

So it is smoke and not steam. When you say that you spotted water dripping next to the drivers side door do you think it is coming from the motor?

If it's white smoke and smells sweet, it's coolant smoke and means you have a bad head gasket.

Well to throw in a experience. I was driving a 93 crown vic and it blew a freeze plug or more like it finally rusted through. Not sure where they are located on the 318. But just tossing out some info. The steam from the ordeal was causing probs with the plugs and wires.
