It was brought up to my attention that one of the bolts in the cam cover has a hole in it so oil can passs through from the galley above.. Its the hole on the passenger side.. After looking all over hell on my work bench I cant find this bolt.. I have all the bolts from this 360 and a 318 there but no bolts with any holes in them.. On the 318 the passage way was so full of crap that there isnt any way in hell any oil was going through there.. So what should I do? I called around and cant find anyone with this bolt.. Not even the local machine shop.. Should I leave the hole boltless which would leave 3 bolts holding on the cam plate? The guy at the machine shop said he didnt have any experience with these engines but he thought it would act like a restrictor and this would be a bad idea that it would cause weak oil presure.. Or should I just put a normal bolt in it.. ?

Probably can just put a normal bolt in it, but I'll go look in the shop in a minute and see if any of my engines have that bolt in it, and in what hole.

I just thought of a 340 that my father had built and it didn't have the bolt with the hole in it either. The way that the timing chain got lubed on that motor was by a big washer looking thing that went on the crank it sat low enough that it ran in the oil standing in the oil pan therefore slinging oil onto the chain. I'm sorry that I didn't think of this when I told you about the bolts last night. You should have one or the other though because the timing chain has to get oiled.

Do u have a pic of what your talking about? Because as of right now I just have it as the crank with timing gear then a cover with harmonic balancer and so on ..

No I don't have one but I will look around the web for something to help.

Here is some more literature. Look through this it shows the wear plate with the correct bolts in it.http://books.google.com/books?id=vm_iIKhdCU4C&pg=RA1-PA114&lpg=RA1-PA114&dq=318+cam+wear+plate+bolts&source=web&ots=kkuPHGIbyu&sig=RdXoYFKcwL1Zexjf_1KVnOPHt2Y#PRA1-PA115,M1

I definatley didnt have the oil slinger on my crank...
out of both motors I have 6 or the weird shaped grooved bolts for the thrust plate.. But I dont have 2 bolts with holes in them any where..

Dodge used two different methods to hold down the camshaft thrust plate and lube the timing chain.
Method #1 used 4 bolts, one was hollow and was in used in one of the upper 2 holes that goes into the lifter valley.. (I'm not certian which side)
Method #2 used 3 bolts and a sheetmetal tab that mounted on the lower left? bolt. The other lower bolt is left out so oil whipped up from the crank can go thru and run down the tab onto the chain.. The tab is trianglar and has a bend in it about 1-1/2" on the longer edge.

Read this it tells where and how everything is mounted

Both methods I mentioned in post #12 use a 4 hole plate. The method with a "bent bracket" uses 3 bolts and the "bracket" has a small tab that engages the 4th holt to align it... It will only fit on one way.
As to the slinger on he crankshaft, not all engines came with them from the factory.

The only engine that I have seen the slinger on was a 340. The only reason that I bruoght it up was because Demon said that he didn't have the bolt with the hole in it so I thought that he might have a motor that used the slinger. I had totaly forgot about the method of using the what I will call the drip rail to oil the timing chain.

So Im just gonna put all four bolts I have in with a drip rail on the bottom left bolt... ? Sound right..

The drip rails I have seen all mounted with one bolt and a small tab into the other lower hole in the thrust plate to keep it aligned... If there is a version with two bolt holes it's something new to me.

I've seen 318's and 360's w/ the slinger washer. Demon I replied to your PM, will try to get a pic today.
