Alright this thing is a pain the ass and is frustrating for me.. As of right now I think its somewhat right.. After trying a few differnt ways I was most effective this way .. I set the gear straight forward.. Then I slide the cam straight in with the gear on it so I would be lined up right.. Once the gear turned I counted the teeths hoping I could position it back that many so when I installed the cam again it would fall into place.. With that said.. I think the gear is one tooth off to the inside.. When looking down on it it looks like its straight but just slightly a hair off... Advice.? Is this cool can I adjust the distributor enough if its truley off or Should I try again? Note Im waiting to button everything up that revolves around these areas...

Is the motor all the way apart or do you just have it tore down just enough to do a cam swap? I have built engines in the past and not paid any attention to were the oil pump, distibuter drive was pointing. When the engine is together bring the #1 piston to top dead center compression stroke drop the distributor in and were ever the rotor button is pointing is where your #1 spark plug wire will go. Then just wire it 18436572 in a clockwise motion.

The motor is on a stand.. I just put new rod and main bearings and so on in it..

If the motor is on a stand then I would defintely put the cam in first, making sure the timing chain is on and in time then put the dist. gear leave the oil pump off so that you can push the gear in and out until you get the dist. drive in time.

Damn it I have a problem then... I put the oil pump on when I finished up the bottom end .. Then I put the timing gear in and the cam.. The dis gear isnt long enough to connect to the pump.. :help: Also isnt there something that should be connecting to the shaft on the inside of the front case that connects tot he fuel pump? :help:

what makes you think that the distributor drive isn't engageing the oil pump? There is a fuel pump eccentric that goes on the end of cam after the cam timing chain gear is installed the bolt that holds the top timing gear on also holds the fuel pump eccentric on.

Ok so the thing that looks like a timing belt tensinor goes on the the end outside the timing gear before the bolt and weird washer.. Its completly round right?
On the dizzy drive... I just dropped the gear in the oil pump was already bolted on so no error there?

You are correct on the fuel pump eccentric. You need to put it on in the order that you stated. I just thought about the plate and bolts that hold the cam in place did you install the bolt with the hole in it in the rightt place. I can't remeber its exact location but you have four bolts one with a hole in it it goes in the bolt hole that runs into the lifter gallery . It is made so that the oil can drain from the lifter gallery onto the timing chain.

As long as the dizzy gear is in either straight or pointing at #1 cyl, it's fine, you can adjust the little that's left by turning the dizzy. Doesn't have to be perfect. And as long as the gear is dropped all the way in and is fully seated in place w/ the cam, it should be engaged in the oil pump. The shaft doesn't stick out below the main cap but it does engage the pump.

One more thing.. In the felpro gasket set .. I have 2 exhaust 2 intake and then I have 2 more thin metal gaskets that are identical to the intake gaskets .. How should these be placed?

Use the metal gaskets, throw the paper ones away :)
