Well, heres a tip for all modified motors.
Upgrade your motor mounts!
I just tore my top mount in half and dropped the motor by about 30 mm!
This is where chryslers show up as import vehicles................the top mount was quoted to me for $299.00!!!! lol
Good reason to install solid prothane race mounts all round now! No more wheel hop.

Also explains why I felt like I lost some oomph lately. Obviously the motor has been rocking too much losing some drive till.............snap!

That will do it Mate! I got the inserts, when I go to the 2.4 I will replace all mounts. Right down to the solid bobble that just makes to much noise. Atleast for a while that is!

Well, update.
Just took a look at it. Looks like the bottom torque strut mount has failed! The metal......not the rubber! and pulled the top mount with it. The motor is sitting about 60 mm too low! Order that part today too I guess. Atleast I have ordered the street race inserts!

Shoulda filled the factory mounts with urethane before they ripped... DIY solid mounts without the vibration. ;)

i wouldnt buy stock ones for $300 and then race inserts for $30... solid are like $120 for passenger side and $70 for tranny.

I dont have much of a choice mopar!
I can only get the normal mounts here in Aus and wait to get the inserts from the usa. The car has to be back on the road asap.
I managed to find the top and bottom mounts / torque struts used from a low mileage car for $50 each! I won't have the time to do the job until next thursday so I guess I will be walking to work! Luckily I have an inner city pad and it only takes 35-40 mins to walk to work. What sort of difference will the new inserts make u think? Will I notice much of a difference in driveability and acceleration?

You seem to be a fabricator hoodoo, and you do what for a living? pull those mounts and get some blocks of steel and make your own solid mounts mate!

also for the 1st gen owners the srt-4s an i beleave all 2nd gens dont have a bobble strut just the sides, 3 in all. but me n my friend are currently constructing a bolt on set up to sell the idea to a vendor but its goin to be a rear solid mount for a srt-4/2ndgen. right now wat weve came up with is weld on to the frame( u know wat i mean) and we want that to be bolt up instead but yet still be strong.

Thing is I don't want to have heaps of vibrations through the car. Thats the reason I didn't go for solid mounts.
Yeah Alaska, I do a fair bit of custom fabrication. To my car, boat and I have built a show bike and 2 retro show scooters. I am also starting work on another show bike for next years show in April. Just imagine welded chrome plated metal chain front forks & a chromed metal skull on the head tube! lol
I'm an architectural draftsman by profession but I do all types of design. I also worked as a freelance graphic artist after I left school. I'm pretty much an architect at the moment where I work.

... I'd buy the used/low mileage mounts and fill them.

I tore my top upper torque strut the other day and the motor dropped down quite a bit. I parked it and ordered a new torque strut and prothane inserts. I looked at the car today and thought it was way too low for the top mount to have just torn. I checked the bottom torque strut and that was fine. I recently got a mechanic to replace the power steering / motor mount bracket as the original one had a crack in it and was throwing the power steering belt.
I just took the passenger side wheel off to inspect the bolt that goes into the fourth motor mount that bolts into the power steering bracket / mount.
To my surprise I found the bolt to be totally loose in the hole. I pulled it out with just my fingers to find that the bolt had snapped!! That is why the top mount tore and dropped the motor way too far!
I inspected the bolt to find NO fatigue marks from a rocking motor, the bolt was snapped / sheared (10 mm bolt). I will put money on it that the mechanic over torqued the bolt with his rattle gun when he installed the power steering mount and it has been hanging by the top torque strut for the past 2 months! Explains why I have lost drive recently! The car seemed sluggish.
My main question begore I rip into the mechanic tomorrow is, is my assumption correct? The rubber mounts were in great condition before. As there are NO fatigue marks on the bolt there is only one reason why it snapped...........over torqued and snapped it during install. So now the power steering mount has to come out and the power steering unit to try and get the snapped off end of the bolt out! NOT HAPPY! My mechanic is gonna get blasted tomorrow I tell u! This better be a freebie fix!

I wouldn't know what to tell you there Mate. It's a 50/50 shot. Maybe he tightend it up to much and broke it or maybe the other mount tore and caused the bolt to snap. I wouldn't go nutz and yell like a mad man but I would let them know what I think. If that don't work you can always :banghead: until you get your way!! OR the all mighty :nutkick:
 Mate! You could have my problem! A worn out bottom end...wait...that dont sound right does it. LOL Good luck Man!

I'd let it slide. I agree with ACR it's a 50/50 shot and certainly not worth burning a bridge with a good wrench turner (assuming you wouldn't send your car to anyone but the best).
This is why I don't let people work on my car unless I absolutly have to...then there is no one to kick but my self and I don't second guess myself normally. Get another bolt and fix it...Get er done Hoodoo! :)

if it was his fault then thats exactly why i dont take my car to the mechanic lol. i do all my own work. but it sounds 50/50 to me too.

Took me a whole day to do it!
I had to take the power steering tensioner / mount to a machinist to get the broken bolt drilled out! $55 just to drill it out.
I replaced the bolt with a high tensile one and use some red lock tight on it.
I'd suggest to everyone to replace the standard bolt with a high tensile one.
