I can get a nice windshield out of a 86. Will it fit my 79? It'll be nice to not look through all the cracks. :)

should fit , I just had a new one put in and the guy said that the glass would fit either my 86 or 73...so I would say yes

So far as I know, 72' - 93' should all be the same... So I'm with Diver on the 'thumbs up' :D
If you really really wanna make sure, just call an auto-glass place and ask them ;)

Yes it will interchange, but is unlikely you will be able to reuse it.
I own a glass shop and have installed plenty of these. They fit real tight in the rubber and usually will end up breaking in the top corners especially if your rubber is old.
Those windshields are relatively cheap, I'd go for a new one.

I've had them swapped from truck to truck before, by a professional. Cost me 45 bucks, didn't break.

Key word, by a professional. Also for $45 I wouldnt even roll my truck. I'd rather stay home and play Call Of Duty 4. At my shop I would have charged $70 out and $70 in, no warranty unless rubber is changed.
If you ever need a new one, let me know. You are close enough to me. I can swing you a good deal on the glass. Cost on those is pretty cheap.

I need new rubber anyway so I could cut the 86 glass out and put it into new rubber. The 86 glass I can get for free and being as I am a cheap skate I might as well try it. If that doesn't work out I'll PM ya Coronet.

I've had two windshields replaced (Geo Metro & 95' B2500) by a place in Spokane for $200 each. That's for the glass and new rubber.... Can't hardly go wrong at that price :D I would imagine that other auto glass shops would be about the same. A good windshield is nice, but a new one is really really nice! :D

I can get the new rubber and locking strips, I need to check some prices for ya. The slider uses a different gasket and if its a factory slider its very hard to get. If its aftermarket, it uses the same gasket as a standard back glass.

How about the locking strip only? I have a good windshield and new rubber just need the locking strip.

Ebay, got all new seals for my 77, the lock strip fits almost everything that is Mopar from the late 60's/ early 70's up to late 80's/ early 90's as far as trucks and vans go.

There are 2 different lock strips I believe, and I don't think they interchange.

There are 2, one chrome and one black and they do interchange.

The ONLY difference is the CURVE of the glass!
They are the same size,(24"x68") but the curve is different.

The only difference between the two windshields are whether or not you want a mirror bracket on the glass or not. The earlier ones have a roof mounted mirror. The curve is not different at all. You can interchange either one if you like.
Hey AutoGlass, tell PPG to stop selling out to the chinese, I wont even buy from PPG anymore, the quality sucks.

Ha! I hear ya. PPG used to be one of the best in the industry, now they are bottom of the barrel just like Safelite's glass. They are both imported from China's XYG glass plant. Even Pilkington (LOF) is doing it now. I have had so many issues with XYG glass that I will no longer install anything that is not an OEM manufacturer.
And also the black locking strip from EBay, thats a good price. Let me know what brand it is when you get it. The black strip is easy to install too.

I had a new, tinted windshield installed in my '73 for $180...in my driveway. I pulled the old one, and cleaned up the rubber. It would have been $230 if they did it all.
For that price, I woudn't waste my time trying to salvage old glass.

Eeee...
Ya know, on one hand I completely agree with 67coronet... And on the other hand, I can't argue with GHS...
I HATE putting chink gear in my rig.... I really do...
But... As we all know... Just about every freekin' thing is made in 'China' these days... Ain't no gettin' around it, sadly...
So, it's a fine line here... Do you buy 'quality' (OEM) and pay out the bee-hind? OR... Do you buy the cheap chink stuff and bite the bullet?
Up here where I live, you bite the bullet.. Why? Because they 'chip-seal' all the roads and you KNOW that sooner or later, you're going to get 'shot-gunned' by a passing logging truck. There goes your windshield. Happens all the time. I put a brand new windshield in my wife's Bravada and two months later, it was toast. I was soooo happy.
Honest to shit... When I lived in So. Cal. 20 years ago, I never never EVER had to replace a windshield in ANYthing. Living up here, I'm replacing one about every two years or so. I've lived here for 20 years and I've bought about 10-11 windshields... So, ya buy the cheap stuff...

There are 2, one chrome and one black and they do interchange.Hmm, I tried to put a chrome one off a mid-80's truck onto my '72 and couldn't get it to fit. Maybe cause it was old or something.

Unless the chrome locking strip is in good shape they usually crack. You also have to have the correct locking strip tool or they are a mf'er to get in.The chrome fits veeeery tight.
I buy my OE stuff for the same or less than the chink crap, I have good pricing set up with my vendor.
I will try and get you a price on that factory slider gasket tomorrow.
