Hey guys, I noticed (before I lost my keys) that when I turn the heater or air on in my truck that it blows trash all over the floorboard. You'd think it would eventually blow it all out, but every time I turn on the heat or air it blows it out. Seems like I remember reading a while back about trash collecting in the heater box of these trucks and people cutting a small door in the heater box to get the trash out and then putting a plate or something back over the cut out. I couldn't find it in a search, just wondering if anybody has ever done this and can shed a little light on the subject? Thanks.

On my truck, the cowl piece was gone. There is a small door, on the passenger's side, that may or may not be the opening for the heat for the feet. Its all full of leaves.

Perhaps this is the door you mean? Mine looks factory.

If you figure something out tell us, the heater is a little simpler then the one on my bimmer. (no filters, no digital controls, dual climate zones.......).

I epoxied a fine mesh metal 'skeeter screen between the air/heater box and the side fresh air opening. This can be accessed two ways but is in my opinion my design error. What I should have done was epoxy the screen to the cowl plate itself. Not as some site suggested making smaller screens and epoxying them to the openings under the cowl plate. This method interferes with the windshield wiper bushing replacement.

Ok now, everything happens in 3's. Let us know what the NEXT thing happens!

Threes??? Heck, I could print out a list that would take you an hour to read through. I just don't want to use up so much band width. :D

Another option is to use panty-hose. Stuff the nylons into the fresh-air inlet. It's cheap (.99 at Wal-Mart) and very effective.

Hey doodle ... How ever you do it, you better get the crud out of there... Chump (I think it was Chump) posted some pics on another thread that showed some poor guys dash that caught fire, because the leaves and stuff caught in there were ignited by the blower motor resistor. It wasn't a pretty sight....
I cleaned mine out 2-3 years back, but I did it the hard way. I just took all the plastic boxes/venting apart. Not hard, just time consuming. A lot of little screws. And it did have a fair amount of pine tree needles in it.

Now, every once in a while I stick the hose on a shop-vac up through that sliding vent door down by the passengers feet and let er' rip. If I want to get real fancy, I'll pull the blower motor (3-4 bolts) and suck junk out from around there too.

I do like the idea of window screen on the vents of the hood cowl though ;)
