I have a 78 4wd with a 440 in it. I was just woundering if there was a 4speed auto I could replace the 3speed 727 with? If so what will I have to switch to put it in?
Thanks

I think Keisler sells a big block OD trans, but it ain't cheap. They never made a big block AOD, so I'm assuming they're cutting the bell and welding on a new big block flange, or either modding 727 cases to accept the OD parts.

I know there's a place that sells an adapter plate to go from big block to a 518 overdrive transmission. There is also a kit for automatically operating the lock up torque converter with this setup.
I'll look for the link when I get home tonight.

Here's the link I was talking about. Pretty expensive...$639... just for the adapter, but probably worth it if you drive that big block alot.
It's on my wish list.

I think there is also an OD add-on for 727's

Gear Vendors makes an add on but I don't think that will work with a 4X4 and costs about $2500

www.transmissioncenter.net also has adapter plates listed in the dodge section near the end of the 518 parts list.. I'm not sure on the cost.
