I am just wondering if I can just change the fluid by sucking it out of the dipstick , and replacing it that way, rather than removing the pan , and have to install a new gasket, which will most likely leak... Any suggestions .....

Pull that cover and replace the filter at a minimum! A flush and filter change is even better.
I had mine done properly on my 03pt and the trq converter still went out along with the tranny pump at 68k miles (14k miles after fluid/filter change). Just got it back from the shop today and I am trading it tomorrow.
