I bought my daughter a 2001 Dodge Neon SE. When accelerating from a stop it hesitates for a few seconds, and then clears itself up and runs regular. What can cause this? Fuel Pump? Fuel filter maybe? Is the fuel filter on the 2001 replaceable without dropping the gas tank? New to a NEON, any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Had same problem and some of it went away when I changed out the plugs and wires. Not sure what autos are like but my manuel dogged in those lower rpms until I took care of air in and air out problems.

Guarantee its NOT a fuel problem. Look for plugs, cables and injectors.

yeah if it was a fuel pressure problem, it might idle, but when you press the accelerator it will shut off because of lack of fuel. but enough pressure could be there to allow it to idle

Plugs and wires! If the 1st and 2nd gen cars are the same they go thru plugs and wires like underwear. I agree with what every one else says not a fuel problem. Plugs and wires can cause some headaches with these cars, did mine! Only they worked fine from a stop if I went normaly, however if I would get into it and raise the rpm's it would fall flat on it's face just b4 or right after I shifted. Then after a 1/3 of a mile it seemed to straighten up and run right again. My plugs and wires were not very old. Maybe a year on the plugs and two on the wires which were Crane Cams 8.5 mm's.
Buy the regular Champion spark plugs for the car and a new set of wires. Do not buy the Platinum wires or any other so called "better plugs" they do not work well in a Neon. Neons like the cheapO Champions that they came with stock. Good Luck with her car.

Hey thanks. I would have been chasing the fuel pump and/or filter before I would have monkeyed with the plugs and wires. I will give it a definate try. And the air in/out thing that ALASKANEON mentioned. Thanks to all of you for your replies. You all said about the same thing.

I have to change my plugs every 3 months. I really notice the difference. I do run higher compression and high octane fuel though so that may make a difference.

I hope this fixes it LionHead!
