What's this in the trunk?

Well, I was tearing my trunk apart to look at my taillight housing for a mod I am thinking of doing, and I found this. My first thought is maybe a spot for an aftermarket multi disc cd changer, and this was just the plastic to sit in that position.

I then pulled apart the carpet on the other side and noticed there is one on the other side, so that ruled out that equation - unless you are running two multi disc cd changers to double up your cd's, but that would be weird because Dodge offers a 6 disc cd changer. Wouldn't they want you to put that in rather than an aftermarket one?

Those look like they are for ventilation when you close the trunk. If those weren't there, it would be hard to close your trunk because of the built up air pressure.

Right on... Makes sense. They can be removed, but I didn't take too much effort to try.
