Thanks In Advance To Anyone Who Responds.
I have a '92 B-250 Van, 318. I had a new Mopar battery put in about 5 years ago. Mind you that I don't drive her that often, 4 times a week on adverage. We had a cold Winter last year with below zero temperatures, then when it started to warm up I then noticed that the check engine light would come on and the engine would run just a little bit rough, only when I first started her after about a day or so of sitting. The problem has become an everyday/cold start thing now with the check engine light coming on every cold start/day. What I have to do is let her warm up, turn the engine off, and then restart and everything runs fine and the check engine light stays off until the next COLD start/day.
I did a check engine code test and I got Code-21 which meant a malfunction in Injector-#1. I checked the injectors and they ALL seem to be pulsating normally. But I've now noticed that the voltage gauge has been a little weird now. I took a long drive and noticed the voltage dropped to about 12 volts when it should read 14+. But then the next day when we had a cold night and now entering fall season, I started her voltage guage was reading 14+ and everything was fine.
So I guess my question is; Could it be a Battery gone bad and hot/cold temperatures can cause it to fluctuate voltage? Could it be a regulator?-(in which case I would have to buy a whole new alternator). Is it possible for a battery to cause faulty codes with the computer like that?
Any advice would be awesome.
Thanks.
