Wow, no offense but that's horrible. I regullary get 18+ MPG on my Durango and I drive 100 miles daily to and from work. My wife's 300C get's 24 MPG.
I love the way the Nitro looks especially the RT with the 20's but hearing the issues, small internal space and now gas mileage, I'm very glad I have the D.
Again no offense meant I'm a Mopar guy, through and through (check sig) but wasn't aware of the poor Nitro's gas mileage.

Just hit 1500 on the wifes nitro, 4.0 r/t, and have been averaging 20 mpg on premium and about 18 mpg on midgrade. I just dropped a k&n filter in it tonight so i will see if that helps even more.

I have a 3.7L 6-spd manual trans Nitro. Over the past year I averaged 18.3mpg (about 50/50 city/hwy driving). Best mileage on a trip was 20mpg and worst around town was 16.5mpg. I expected better from a manual trans.
The EPA website is a good source for mileage info as they have a section in which owners can plug in their real world mileage. There are 2 entries for manual trans Nitros (one of them is mine) and they both have an 18.3mpg average.

The Nitro isn't exactly a light vehicle, and V6s aren't known for great low end torque. Taking that in to account, 16-ish MPG city isn't really bad. Hell, my 4.7 Ram was only getting about 17.5 on the highway.
Now if they put a 4.7L in the Nitro
Then it would have plenty of torque :rck:
Of course, it would handle like a nose heavy pig too....... ;)

My Hemi Ram can do better than that.

Notice I don't have that Ram any more, either...LOL. I could sqweak 20mpg out of it with the cruise at 60, but THAT'S not happening.

It will get better with miles. No 4x4 is going to get good in-town mileage. The 16 mpg you are getting is a pretty good average. If you put more miles on in town your MPG is going to be lower. Guys with high "averages" spend most miles on the highway and few in town, so don't use that as an example. :)
