We have an 05 GC SXT that we purchased a few months ago. Love the van, but recently we have been having some odd electrical problems.

Occasionally while driving the van everything (electrical and engine) will shut off for a moment. Even if you are going 50 MPH the engine dies, the speedo drops to zero and the radio/DVD/AC all shut off. But then a moment later everything will turn back on and the engine will resume running all by itself without having to restart it.

Also, every once in a while the van loses all electrical power. The remote power door locks won't unlock the car, no interior lights, no electrical power at all. It won't start either. But if you wait a while, the electrical power all of a sudden comes back--the lights, electric door locks, etc. start working again and the van will start right up like nothing was wrong and then work fine for a while. The no start problem happens maybe once a week. Usually it corrects itself in a few minutes but once the van would not start for a few days.

I thought maybe there was a problem with the security chip in the key but it has happened with both of our sets of keys and the security chip would not explain the complete lack of electrical power. I've also considered the battery but the battery is only three years old and when the thing decides to work it starts right up so it seems the battery is good.

Any ideas what might be causing this? Bad computer circuit board, loose wire??? Although this is a 2005 it was actually put into service in June 2004 so the 3/36 warranty has expired.

I'm just guessing but maybe a loose\dirty ground wire or a bad computer? Maybe an exorcist is in order....

yes i agree with BW. sounds definatly like a grounding issue
had a similar issue with my neon. it was a dirty ground right on top of the radiator support that connected directly with the battery

Just thought I'd post a follow up in case anyone else experienced similar problems. I replaced the battery several weeks ago and have had no further problems. Someone posted on here that a bad battery can cause some strange symptoms...he was right.
