The check engine light on my 2002 dodge Grand caravan sport 3.3 came on so I took it to the auto part’s store they ran a test and it returned with codes p0442 and p0455. They told me that it was probably the gas cap so I replaced it with a new one from the dealership. I then disconnected the battery and the light went off. about a day later the light came back on so I took it back to the auto part’s store and they reran the test and the same codes reappear. I would like to know if anyone else has encountered this problem and if so what advice would you recommend.

Google both of those codes-lots of info, even fix suggestions. As you will see, both codes are related to the evap system, one for small leak, one for large leak. Bolh can be gas cap related, so the parts house did ok for you. Wasn't the cap, as you said, now need to locate the vacuum leak in the hoses of the evap sustem. You should have a sticker under the hood which gives a vacuum diagram. Your van may have a evap solenoid which may not be working. Need a manual for that. Any way start with the vacuum lines looking for leaks or maybe one is actually disconnected. Someone may have knocked one loose when working under the hood. Good luck.

i checked the hoses on the evap canisters and two of the hoses were torn at the ends and weren't sealing right. could that be the problem.

Yep!! Could be, but you won't know until you replace those hoses or at least cut off the split part and make sure you have a good seal. Then clear the codes again and see if they come back. This is a step by step process and you are doing fine, just need to go step by step. BTW these are fuel hoses so if you replace use only fuel hose not vacuum hose. Your parts store will know. Fuel hose is more expensive so people cheap out and use vacuum hose, thats asking for big trouble as in FIRE! I recommend you replace the lines that are split and I would replace all the lines to the evap if you came to my shop, because if one fails the rest will fail shortly.

you are having a super common problem with the 02's.
there are two hoses under the air cleaner box that very commonly fail. Also the filler neck on the fuel tank fails. just replace anything that looks even slightly cracked or dry in the evap system.
If it still triggers the cel take it to a shop/stealer and TELL them that they MUST do a smoke test. If they look at you funny run run run away as fast as you can until you find someone smart!
