I'ts been 6 years since I replaced all 5 hoses, and I figured I better pull a little mantainance on the '86 today. I've done it before, and I still find it a major pain to do. The bi pass is the toughest for me. I find I need to take the thermostat housing off the intake to get to the hose. Factory air does not help with replacing any of the hoses.

Has anyone come up with any suggestions?

Also, please view my "Thermostat" thread.

Thanks.

Use these hoses and you'll never have to change them again.

I have yet to come up with a simple way to replace hoses on a van..unless it's an A-100, those are very easy to work on.

A couple of things I have found that help is to use a box cutter to make a cut on the end of each hose that is being removed. That helps greatly in geting them off. Then I use a little liquid soap on the inside of both ends of the hose to aid in getting back on. That really seems to help especially on the bypass hose. As mentioned above, I find it's easiest to replace the bypass when the upper hose and thermostat housing is removed.

On a side note, I've had more bypass hoses go bad that any other hose. That figures, the hardest would need to be replaced the most often.
