2000 Caravan won't go into gear

My 2000 caravan was working fine and hten sipped from gear and then Picked back up again. I pulled over and then it shifted to park fine but did not want to go into drive but then did but would keep slipping out of gear. Now it does not want to go into gear at all. Any ideas out there...

Check the fluid first. Has it recenly had a fluid change? Was the correct transmission fluid used (ATF +3 or +4)? If not, is the level low? I would start with the basics and work my way out from there
