Recently I replaced pads and rotors on my wife's Grand Cravan SXT (front) and pads on the rear. Now we are occaisionally hearing/feeling a grinding noise from the front passenger side when the brakes are applied. It doesn't happen every time and does not seem to have any real pattern (hard vs. easy braking, etc.). The only thought I have is a possible calliper problem. Any ideas?? :help:

Does it happen completely randomly or sometimes in the mornings during the first few brakings? How new are they? In the first couple of hundred miles you might still hear some grinding that will go away over time.

It is quite random... I put the pads and rotors on before a long road trip so they have 1,000 plus miles on them at this point.I can't find any ryme or reason to the sound. My wife said it happened more during a recent rain storm when she was driving but I cannot say that I have had that experience.

No, I haven't but that is a good thought. Is this difficult on the model I have? I wouldn't think it would be...

Take a look at the brake pad caliper and how it sits in the steering knuckle. on my '96 it was a bear to get the caliper with pads seated correctly in the knuckle and one of my pads was growling. My neighbor a independent tech came over and helped me get the caliper seated correctly, neighbor said he had many problems getting the pads in just right on these cars.

the bearings are sealed on these

it is rust if it is happening as you describe. new rotors are very rust prone until they are well broken in. as mentioned above the noise will usually happen in the am as the pads knock the overnight rust off the rotors.

if the noise doesn't go away in a few weeks take them back apart and make sure you don't have a faulty pad.
