My father's '01 Caravan started to make noise when the engine is loaded with the a/c engaged. I've sprayed some lube between the compressor pulley and the housing and the noise went away for now. Am I looking at a complete assembly in the near future or will I get away simply with a pully w/clutch?
Thanks to all who reply!

7 or 8 years and 100+,000 miles ago the Dodge dealer told me I needed to replace the compressor on my 94 because it was getting noisy. So far it has worked fine except for the weird cycling problem that just showed up, (post below).
Your milage may vary but I would run it till it quits.

I just noticed a noise in our '01 GC too. It sounds like driving over short rumble strip real fast. It seems to happen when the AC clutch engages. I'm thinking I'll let it go too until the AC quits. Is that what your Dad's sounds like Dak?

After checking out thoes TSB's I take back what I said about letting it go. My 94 must not have the oil sucker. However it is still cycling for no aparent reason.

Thanks guys. I'll check into it. Do the dealerships do TSB flashes free of charge or do I have to pay?

If it's out of warranty, you usually have to pay (which makes NO sense to me). But sometimes if you sweet talk them and tell them how much you love the van and will buy a new one soon, they'll get Chrysler to pay for it.

One last question. I got this from Dodge.com when I plug in my vin. Is the CSN the same as the TSB? I think I know the answer but hopefully I'm wrong.

No, a CSN is not the same as a TSB. A TSB is a Technical Service Bulletin that describes common problems and proper repair procedures as well as updated parts, etc. So you know, a TSB does not necessarily mean that the repair gets done for free.
Hey Rick-- I looked up TSB 24-003-01 on alldatadiy.com and it cross-references 18-004-01 w/r/t the flash update, but that second TSB is not available to me on alldata. I'd like to do the software flash to avoid having this problem (after checking if it has been done already of course), can you tell me the part number for the flash?

Rick-- I just remembered I have this info on my ISIS/ITIL dvd. Duh.
Anyways, isn't TSB 24-004-04 the one we're looking for? This states that the procedures in the TSB are reimbursable under an extended 7yr/70,000 mile warranty.

Yes, Rick99, you are correct. 24-004-04 is a more current TSB. Whoops! I've corrected my blog entry to reflect the correct number.
Thanks for pointing that out.

I guess I'll be going to the dealership. I HATE going to the dealership for any work. Being it's a flash, I don't have much of a choice.
