Really sounds like the pump is going up.

Yep, agree, have you done a fuel pressure test?

The fuel pump, reservoir and filter are all combined in one part. Unfortunately, it is very expensive (over $500?). You have to drop the tank to replace it.

Just to satisfy my own curiosity I looked up a fuel pump for a 94 b350 on rockauto and found prices from 198$ to 362$.

When I have to drop my fuel tank for another fuel pump, I am cutting a hole in the floor and fabricating an access panel. I've read on other forums that aftermarket fuel pumps can be iffy. Many swear by going with OEM Mopar units.

In my '89 I was able to replace just the pump inside the assembly, but like the inebriated fool I was at the time, I didn't install it deep enough in the assembly so now, when I get below 1/8 of a tank and take a hard turn, It stalls. If I had a nice access cover I could fix this in 15 minutes. I'm not gonna drop the tank again just to do this, nor will I cut the hole in the floor without dropping the tank.
My replacement carter pump cost 138$ in an Autozone in Ensenada Mexico. Arturo accepted a 20 , a well used Ryobi drill and a headlamp as payment. I could not have done it solo. I also had over 25 gallons in my tank when the pump failed. PITFA!

I would stay away from aftermarket pumps in this case. My buddy has a Jeep Grand Cherokee that uses a similar design fuel pump module. We went through 3 aftermarket pumps. Two by "Master" and one "Carter". The Carter one really surprised me actually. Anyhoo, he finally spent the coin and went with OEM. Never had a problem since. You may get a good deal on an OEM pump by going with MakeItMopar.com...talk to Damon.

Cool. I joined to research this very issue. I also have a 96 2500 5.2l van that behaves this way. If it is carried too far, the computer steps in to protect the engine. It then attempts to shut the engine down at timed intervals. When fuel is topped up, the negative terminal must be disconnected for a few minutes to reset. Incidentally, the guage still shows about 5/16 at empty, so I was thinking that I was getting some dirt from the bottom. I am also suffering from extended cranking for cold starts. Adding injector cleaner helps this for a time, but it returns. Someone mentioned that perhaps the anti-drainback valve was faulty at the pump.

Yep...that sounds like the pump as well. Knock on wood, I have yet to replace the pump in my 94. I fill the tank when she gets to 1/4 tank anyway. She fires right up in the morning.

Hmmff, I wish I knew of the problems with the aftermarket pumps before I installed mine. I never had any prewarning that my old one was going either. Just left me stranded one day, in a drive through to boot.
