im currently looking for a good shift kit for my 79 lil red. i am aware that it has a FAO A-727 load flight transmission and was factory modified with a 440 valvebody and 9 inch high stall converter.
i can only find shift kits for 727 torque flight. is ther one made for load flight or are they the same?

LoadFlite and TorqueFlite or the same thing. LoadFlite was a marketing ploy for the trucks, I believe. You just need to order a kit for a 727, 904's use a different kit I believe.

yep...loadflight is the same as a torqueflight.
If I remember - the only differnece in any 727 (aside from the cases in big / small block apps) is the number of clutches and how the valve body was set up.
Heavy duty 727's got more clutches (like hp and police/taxi apps) the plain ol newports/lux cars got less and smoother shifts etc.
I currently have a Cheetah manual valve body in my 727 in the Cordoba and aside from the fact that i hate auto trans, it shifts pretty darn hard - plus I like the fact it has to be shifted all the time.
Look into Cheetah stuff - they started out being a Mopar trans only - I think they did move on - but they know the Mopars - when I got mine - i had a slight problem - the guy got on the phone - walked me through the whole thing and has worked great since (over 30k miles)
