This is not a huge deal, but last night I got rear ended by a new mustang. The kicker is the big chrome metal bumper on my 2000 van folded like tin foil (it is mangled) and the mustang (fiberglass and foam) didn't have a scratch! Even the foam an frame were fine.
What gives! And does anyone know if there are after market bumpers that cost less than the $200 I've found?

The air bags didn't go off either?

Nope, he didn't hit me very hard; thats why I was shocked by the amount of damage. Doesn't make sense that a plastic car would take out what appears to be a piece of real metal, does it?

Can you bang out the bumper on the back side to strighten it out? I did that on my B1500 front bumper. I used a 2x4 and a rubber mallet hammer.

I'll probably try something later this week. I did tie it to my box truck and pull it back up and out, so now I'm only dealing with a dent. We'll see what happens!

Unfortunately our big chrome bumpers aren't that great. That Mustang had a plastic cover over a very beefy steel beam I'm sure.
