my van has a 1 barrel carb. is this normal? would a bigger carb give me more power and lead to better gas mileage? how 'bout a spacer?

'87 318?

That should be a Holley 2bbl. Look down inside the carb....you should see two venturi's.

I've got an '86 318 2brl carb. It's very small and I can see how someone might think it's a 1 barrel.

Just because someone miss-identified a carb on a reality show doesn't mean they are correct.... (A so called Mopar gurru)
I agree with the others.

is it hard to rebuild a carb?

It would be for me. The odds of the van running ater I rebuilt it would be slim to none.

Not if you take your time and keep tabs on the little piece parts that are inside a carburetor.

For someone who has never rebuilt a carburetor, I would suggest a reman. or perhaps get a friend who has experience rebuilding carbs give you a hand.

I haven't done too much with automotive carbs, but I have rebuild more motorcycle carbs than I can count. If you're not in a huge hurry and you are able to post pics here, I'm sure that between all of us here at DT we could give you all of the advise you will need to do it correctly. My philosophy is that in the long run you are always better off doing repairs yourself. That's how you learn. :)

well i got it done and the van runs a lot better. i thought it was just dirty but when i took it apart the accelerator pump had come disconnected. it was really dirty inside but i got it all cleaned up. trottle response and acceleration is a lot better.
