Well it's me again, with another one of those things I don't know what to do with..... :dunno:

I can't seem to get a good picture of it, but it is located inside the intake manifold right under the carb. I assume it is something to do with the smog system which I have totally removed...... From what I can see, I think it is some sort of a valve, and I think it can be unscrewed, but them\n there would be a hole in the intake......Does anyone know what it is, can I safely take it out, and if I can what size plug will screw in that hole to block it off???? :huh:

I think what you are seeing is the part where the EGR routs exhaust gases into the intake. If you the EGR blocked off I don't believe it will cause any problems. :gr_patrio

Yes, that is the EGR standpipe and you can remove it with a 3/4" socket and pitch it. This is one of those hidden things that is often overlooked. Removing it will not cause any bad effects, and will actually help your performance by removing that huge obstruction from your intake plenum. Don't bother with trying to plug the hole, since your EGR is plugged/removed it won't make any difference.

I noticed a nice increase in performance after removing it from my '87 318.

Thanks a bunch Charlie & Dodgeman, I will just take that little sucker out of there and pitch it in the bucket with all the other stuff I always have left over when I work on things :D :D :D

My bucket has now become a 50 gallon drum, cause always seems after I work on sumpin there isn't any place for some of the stuff I took off to go back on..... :dunno:
