i am putting a new axle seal on the passengers side of my truck, i got the old seal out by pulling it out of the end of the axle tube with a beaing puller. but now i cant get a new seal in from the end of the tube. do i have to put it in from inside the diff housing or do i just drive it from the end of the tube?

It goes in from the outside, sometimes they are a bear though. Make sure the hole is good and clean, least little bit of grit can hang it up. Spraying a bit of WD40 in there probably wouldn't hurt either.

Yeah, as Speed says, clean every little bit of grim/gunk out....

The hard part is getting it in going 'square' ... It can be a SOB sometimes...

Once you get it tapped in going square, you'll be good as gold...

TIP: Try to find a piece of PVC pipe with a square edge that is about the same diameter as the METAL part of the seal.... (Or any other kind of pipe for that matter..) About maybe 6" long or so....

Square up the piece of 'whatever' against the seal, square up the seal going into the axle, put a hunk of wood on the outside of your 'whatever' and tap in with a hammer. This will distribute the 'impact' load around the whole surface of the seal and you'll have a lot eaiser time getting it started 'square'.

It can still be a bitch at times though.....

Also a little trick to pulling the old seal/bearing is to re-install the c-clip and use the axle as a slide hammer. :)
