:help: 1993 350 van rear wheel drive 360 A 518 trans.
I bought this used at 60,000 and transmission
broke.

Evidently this is the 727 with an overdrive?
From what I can find, the manufacturer just punch
-ed the hydraulic :help: parts out-no machine work and
tollerance was very sloppy, which cause the units
(transmission) to fail. Did they improve on this
in the remanufactured units?
What is the best: remanufactured, rebuilt, or
renew?

Where would one find good transmission people?

What load can this unit tow?

There is an overdrive button and I can feel it
shift. Does it have a lockup? how would one tell?

Where would one look on the transmission
for information?

Emcc is shown in the electrical parts 'locater'
and a plug on the vehicle right below the code
plug(in).
What kind of relay for this emcc?

Are there any revisions to converter for manual lockup?

All the OD's have lock-up converters. In fact almost all the autos, 3- or 4-spd, had lock-up after 79 or 80. Best thing to do w/ one is have someone you know/trust to do good work to rebuild it. I've heard it helps a bit to put a shift kit in it too. You can run the lock-up off a switch, but it's not really worth it in most cases, just let the tranns/computer do it.

Not all 518's had lockup convertors. Those that do have lockup convertors have a 3 wire connector just behind the shift linkage on the left side of the tranmission. Those without have only 2 wires... Don't confuse this with the neutral start switch which is between the linkage and the pan.
There have been many upgrades over the years and new parts and rebuild kits contain these. Most are related to the overdrive unit, bearings and gears. There are some seals in the rebuild kits that are also upgraded to deal with machining issues.
You can rebuild these to be quite stout if you use a good cooler and shift kit.
The ID # is on the left side case edge just above the pan.
