I've got a 2001 B1500. The transmission is making a rubbing/scrubbing noise when it is in O/D. I changed the fluid & filter and it still makes the same noise.
The fluid is foamy after driving. The noise will go away when I push the button to take it out of O/D. Any help would be appreciated. :help:

When you changed the fluid/filter did you notice any metal in the pan or more than about a peanut of gray sludge? Metal is real bad news, sludge is created by clutch wear.
If the rpm's don't drop when you engage OD the unit is locked-up (broken) or the clutches are slipping due to wear.
I would stay out of OD until you know whats wrong.

Since you're a newbie here, We're not too sure how knowlegable you are about Dodge trannys, but there are 2 things which you should know which are both very important -
1. Make sure that you use the CORRECT fluid. ATF+3, or better yet, ATF+4. I'm not sure exactly what year they started recomending the +4, but if your '01 manual says to use +3, than that is fine, but the +4 is better. Anything that had a specified fluid of +3 will also work with the +4 - since the +4 came along later and superceeded the +3. DO NOT use Dexron or anything else.
2. Check the fluid level the CORRECT way - with the engine at full operating temp, ideling, and the transmission in Neutral - NOT Park. (Set the park brake!!)
Was the fluid foamy before it was changed? Double check the level and make sure its not over or under filled.
If you already know all of this, sorry. But if not, these are the basics.
And lastly, before I forget, WELCOME TO DT! :wavey:

There was a bit of sludge when I changed the fluid, not alot. The RPM's do drop in O/D.

That's good to hear it's only a little sludge and the Revs drop in OD... This means the OD system is working and not broken. (A common problem in earliar years)
If the transmission is overfilled it will cause the fluid to foam-up... A few bubbles on the dipstick is common since fluid spirts out of the valve body from various vent locations inside the transmission.

What will happen if you use Dexron? I think I may have topped it up with Dexron. Should I drain the fluid and change the filter again or is it too late?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, here, but its my understanding that the friction properties of Dexron aren't really compatable with the Mopar transmissions, and Dexron may cause clutch chatter in the torque convertor lock up clutch and the other friction clutches in the trans.
What fluid did you use when you did the fluid & filter service?

Your correct. ATF+3 and +4 have additional friction modifiers that help prevent chatter during torque convertor lockup. Also ATF+3 is semi-synthetic and ATF+4 is full synthetic. both can take additional heat that would oxidize Dexron III...The OD transmission makes additional heat in OD since the OD gear train is working, in 3rd (OD off) none of the gears transmit power thru them.
Topping it off shouldn't be a problem.
