Monday dropped pan and put new filter and ATF+4 in. Wednesday go to work and all is good. Leave work and van is immediately in limp mode (low gear). Tried turning it off and turning it on, still in limp mode. Tried resetting the computer, still in limp mode. When you do turn it off or reset the computer it starts in 1st gear for about 2 seconds then drops right into limp mode. :WHT: I know granny put either a new input or output sensor in this last winter. My wifes uncle who is a chrysler tranny specialist said try putting a new sensor in whichever she didn't replace because he said a lot of times when one goes the other seems to go soon after. He also rebuilt this tranny about 3 years ago, said he put heavy duty clutch packs in it (whatever that means) along with other updates. I realize the best thing to do is to get the tranny codes pulled but I'm not paying the dealer $70 to do that. Anyone know if the advanced autos can pull those codes or only the engine codes? I think first I am going to check all the wiring, I've heard stories of bad wiring or corroded terminals. Any other suggestions

I don't know exactly what year it applies to, but I seem to remember reading something about the connectors for the speed sensors changing at some point. It is possible that your vehicle has the terminal for the old connector, but the new sensor has the new connector on it. From what I read, they were close enough that they would fit together, and work for a while, but eventually the connection would fail. I believe there is a new connector available through the dealerships. I don't know if this is your problem or not, but might be worth checking into.

When I went to Autozone, their Actron code scanner displayed the transmission code. I didn't do anything special to make that happen, it just gave the transmission code to me with the ECM codes.
It may cose you more than $70 just throwing parts at-- is their an Autozone nearby?

Well I got lucky, did what wifes uncle suggested and just replaced both input and output sensor and so far everything is running fine. For what its worth I got both sensors at NAPA, $15 each.
