Hey everyone, Jim here -

Dropped the tank from my 86 d150 today, to find a hole in the steel tube that my fuel is supposed to travel through - no wonder I couldn't get any fuel to the engine.

Lovely little job, had to cut the old rusty bolts off with a cutting wheel.
But not a spot of rust on the tank itself - glad I don't own a chevy.

I was told you can't buy tank straps or sending units, so I'm trying to have mine repaired.

At least I know what the problems are...... For now!

Can anyone tell me about a similar gas tank experiance or parts avalibility?

Thanks guys - *peace* :rck:

not similar but, when i removed my tank to paint the frame i found a small crack where gas could leak out if it was near full. so i platic welded it!!!! that was 5 yeas ago and no problems yet!

Be very gentle with a plastic tank (Side-rail or rear mounted) ... I've had no probs with mine, but I understand they're harder than hell to find new.... Or even 'good used'......

Great news!

The local rad shop was able to rebuild my old sending unit, they had to put 3 new lines on and also had new straps made up for the tank.

I have pictures, just need to get them uploaded...

Now, my truck runs great - You can feel the pulse of the fuel pump if you pinch the rubber line at the back. I bought a new fuel pump, but the old one seems to work.

Which is funny because it came off a 360 in my friends grandparents conversion van, which wouldn't run because it wouldn't get fuel to the carb. AH HA - wait a second - maybe it needs new fuel lines? What a concept. :)

Here's hoping my Dodge is ready for service once again!

Ok, my bad, again - lost a heater hose on the way home. Had to cut the end off and re-clamp it.

Coolant everywhere!

I should have replaced them a long time ago. But other than that minor repair,
she ran perfect - I was impressed. :)

It's nearly flawless - I had her doing a hundred mile an hour today!
And the fuel economy is through the roof, I get close to 20 mpg ,
before about 5-10 mpg. Worth every cent invested.
And also my oil is golden honey instead of black crap.

If anyone wants the dimentions for tank staps, I wil post them here soon.
