has anyone found shorty or block hugger headers that would fit the stock y pipe?.

i will be rebuilding my lil red's 360 soon because of a rear main seal leak, and thinkin of doing a 408 stroker kit, mild cam and heads. was originaly going to port and polish the ex manifolds (to keep it stock looking)but checking out my options. thanks

yeah, search alot on the web with no luck. i did just find some in my jegs mag., but they are universal street rod block huggers, and would require custom down pipes.

www.summitracing.com has block huggers that can be ordered ceramicoated or raw, but also require fabrication... They way be the same.
I cleaned mine well and used a stainless colored coating on them from Bill Hirsch. (Not certian on the spelling)

As far as I know, there are no headers that bolt to our stock Y-pipes.

yeah probably not a huge demand for them. i really wanted to keep it as stock looking as possible, but want to make sure this 408 can breathe well. i wonder if i can port and polish the stock manifolds. or would i be wasting my time.

If it has the larger 360 (as opposed to 318) manifolds they should breath as well as the heads. Sometime ago a magazine did an article on manifolds and headers and found that 360 manifolds were almost as good a headers.. Within 3% of peak HP on a built 318, about the same on a mellow 360, without any modifications. I'm sure you can improve them by opening the collector area and removing the heat-riser valve if equipped.

Sanderson is a hot rod company that makes Blockhugger headers but they state on their website that they will build custom headers http://www.sandersonheaders.com/custom_built_headers.php
Probably not inexpensive though.
