my 04 GC calls for 5W30 engine oil.
Other cars are calling for 5W20 like my 05 Magnum R/T
or my Dads 03 Town Car

I think the 5W20 is more fuel efficient ? So why not in the Caravan ?

Does anyones newer Caravan call for 5W20 ?

Or has anyone used 5W20 even though it calls for 5W30 ?

Just a curiosity and hope someone can enlighten me a little ?

Thanks, Jack

I don't think it will matter. If you are concerned I would go with 30 in the summer and 20 in the winter. There really should be no efficiency issue with 20 vs 30 since these are related to viscosity at standing temp. 5 is the viscosity at operating temp.

My $.02 on oil,

Given the caravan's propensity to run hot, blow fan relays, and various other issues with modern day engines, I would seriously recommend switching to a synthetic oil. I prefer Mobil 1 but it really doesn't matter which one (Amsoil, Valveline, Royal Purple [waste of money IMO]). And stick with an oe filter if it is convenient. If not then ONLY use Mobil 1 or Pure One filters. NEVER EVER use a Fram filter. Hands down the best aftermarket filters are Mobil 1 and Pure One.
