Of all these guests that view the Intrepid forum, along with all the other members on the site with Intrepids, lets hear about your Intrepid!! There are still millions of these beasts on the road, so post away, describe your 'Trep..
As for me, Ive got a 1998 Dodge Intrepid SE. It started as a base model with a 2.7, which I bought with a blown motor. I have since converted it to a 3.2, done a full custom re-paint (check out my garage for pics), and am slowly adding mods as time (and money) permits. The most recent mods, 18" Charger wheels, and 300M special sway bars. Ive got much more planned for it-- autostick, OTIS, and an ES front bumper w/fogs. This car has become a great hobby for me, and I plan to drive her into the ground, and fix it up again.
Many think of the Intrepid as a regular run-of-the-mill sedan, but it is much more than that.

I think of it as a pretty awesome run of the mill sedan, with loads of potential. Some look and drive pretty standard, but some are super sweet rides.
Mine, is pretty standard, and will never be anything but. Does not mean I do not love it though. The Intrepid rocks!
Mine:
2001 Intrepid SE
2.7l V6
165,000 Km (102,000 miles) and running good.
No add ons, no tweaks, no customization, nothing special or unique.
Just a damn fine ride.

I've got a 99 w/ the 3.2.. I've got 125,000k on it and it runs strong.. I use it as a daily driver and try to keep it looking good but over the years its gotten some battle scars.. I truly love the car.. I've owned this one for about 6 years and I still enjoy driving it.. I can't say I've had that feeling about any other car before.. The interior is super and the exterior feels sporty but yet classy..
When or if this thing ever dies I will be looking for another one w/ low miles.. Maybe I can find one that was stored somewhere..

I've got a blue 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES with the 2.7L an no fog lights, cloth interior but upgraded sound system, power driver's seat. Black upper dash and light gray lower dash.
It's got 187K miles on the original drivetrain, and while I have concerns of teh engine's remaining life, rest assured that a 3.5 is in it's future. For now I enjoy it as it is, taking good care of it and loving every moment behind the wheel.
Like I said, I want to put a 3.5 in it someday, as well as a set of 18 inch 5-spoke or double 5-spoke wheels...,maybe upgrade the brakes to larger cross-drill discs if that can be done.
This car is going to be with em for a long, long time.
Been an Intrepid owner (2004 SE) for about a year now.
Love the car.

My son recently purchased a preowned 2004 Intrepid SE (2.7 liter) for his daily driving to work car as a County Park Ranger. Bought from a local (Parker, Az) Chevy dealership, the Intrepid was originally part of a Rental Car fleet in Denver, Colorado. So he is the second owner.
Had 78,988 miles on the odometer and the Carfax report was excellent.
Has been kept in excellent shape with some SE/ES optionals the rental company ordered and had installed for it.
Silver w/ Slate Grey interior
AM/FM with CD player
Trip "computer (?)"/odometer
Controls on steering wheel
Tinted side/rear windows
A/C
Dual airbags
Cruise control
Keyless entry
Power windows, doors, mirrors, seats, doorlocks
Foglights (although, in the desert here.... will see very little "fog")
Double Star hubcaps
I believe it comes with anti lock brakes as well.
Very smooth ride and quiet. Very stylish (he has gotten a number of "WoW" complements) .
More importantly, he is very happy with it's highway mileage (28 mpg.) as a "large sedan" compared to his previous vehicle.

Here's our 2000 ES that we bought brand new. It has app 190,000 kms and has been the wife's daily driver. It is basically stock with all the ES power options, auto-stick, premium stereo, rear spoiler. I have also read all the horror stories on the 2.7, but ours has had very few problems. No one ever mentions this, but the 2.7 in the ES was rated with more HP and different torque #'s. Maybe that's why it still runs good. Gets great gas mileage.
It has always been garaged, never been smoked in and gets regular service by me. Still has a good shine, no squeaks and rattles, and still a solid ride.
For a normal production line car, it has treated us well. Besides oil and tires, I had one repair that cost me $500 but that's it over all these years.
Now that our kids are gone, we were thinking of a new vehicle, but it's hard to get rid of something that's so reliable. And since they're not worth anything, we might have to drive it till the wheels fall off, but that might be for years.......lol

Mine (well, actually, it's my wifes) is a 98 ES, 3.2L with 87K and other than swapping the stock cassete/radio for a Pioneer CD player it's all stock. (she's funny that way) But I guess that's good because if she's happy with stock, that's more money for me to put into my new hemi Ram. :)
She traded her 95 Trep with 16K on it for the 98 when they rolled out Gen2 and I gotta agree with the people who said that the Intrepid is anything BUT a run of the mill sedan.
The only problems we've had are a warped brake rotor when it was new and worn inner tie rod bushings at about 70K. Also, it has recently developed a "bounce" that I tend to think is bad CV joints. :VHOT:
NOW she's wanting a 300. :whackit:

2001 SE. 2.7 with 200,700 miles (323,700 km). All original engine parts. Not a trophy car in the least. This thing is well used. Still gets 31.5 - 32 mpg during long steady cruises on the highway though.

Mine is a 1999 2.7L Intrepid with 170,000 miles, I use a synthetic blend oil.
Based upon some of the stories that I've read on here I consider myself lucky to reached 170,000 miles with only minor problems.
Replaced: Drivers door power window mechanism
Transmission speed sensor
Both radiator fans
Ignition switch (appears to be acting up again)
Flushed the block twice (had low oil pressure at idle indications)
Overall I've been really pleased and I hope to get a lot more miles.

Very Good !
The low oil pressure indication at idle ( oil light flicker) is most likely a faulty oil pressure sending unit. This is very common. There is a service bulletin that involves adding a so-called vent wire to the switch. Replace the switch and have the TSB done. I did, and many others have too.

OK I just picked up an 01 Intrepid RT... it has black leather and is very clean. Just saw it in a local add and decided to give it a test drive!!! 20 minutes later I was the new owner! I have no history on it.
I am not sure what mods I am planning on doing, It will all come to me in time. Off hand I am thinking carbon fiber inserts, spoiler. I already installed my alpine head unit. Amp and subs may go in this weekend. Oh and it has 173K!!! Oh I am looking for some 06 Charger wheels. :D
I have a question regarding Charger wheels..I thought it would be a fitment issue due to different offsets but I've seen at least one Intrepid with them. Do they fit ok?

to be honest I am not sure of any issues as for fitment, I saw one guys intrepid on another forum with the charger wheels and he didn't mention having any issues as far as fitment. I have been meaning to IM him and ask if there were any issues.
Here is the car I seen... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2126471

Ok so it's a Champagne colored 99' Intrepid with 2.7L V6, and a sound system. Until recently it was a very nice looking beautiful car, but a brother's girfriend and caved in rear passenger door later, we now have a "slightly" less pretty Intrepid. The surprising part is the milage- No I am not lying about the milage, I get looks from technicians every time I go to the parts shop- which is currently at about 208,000 miles. I bought it with a broken valve spring and 150,000 miles on it in May 2007, spent $142.56 to fix everything on it, and haven't had any problems since, other than corrosion on the battery. Bought it for $500 so my sound system actually cost more than the car did.
I have an 1800watt Kenwood Amp. with a JBL Cd player and a Pyle Performance 13.5in subwoofer. AND AGAIN I'M NOT LYING ABOUT THE MILAGE, it actually has over 200 thousand miles on it.

Newbie here and I have a 1999 slate blue Intrepid.. Has been a OK car until last month when the water pump failed 145,000 on the 2.7... Took out the head gaskets I think also as the pan had water in it.. My wife was driving it to work and she said it peged the gauge... I drained the coolant and changed the oil so I can move it around... Hope to do the 3.5 swap this summer as I have a extra 1999 Prowler engine and have been reading up on this site about it... Lots of info here to be had and willing to learn.. :gr_patrio John(onecatnodog)Collins

HI everyone!! i'm a proud owner of a pre-owned 2002 intrepid se 2.7 with 210000 km's on it..been changing the oil every 4000km with regular oil(was told it has too many km's on it to switch to synthetic)..so far had to put 4 o2 sensors, 2 belts, spark plugs(woking out the bugs)..other than that put a JVC deck and speakers(sounds great)..waiting to put some subs in after i get the car up to par..needs a few more parts(rotors, cv joints, ball joints, etc..)after that plan to put dual exhaust, cold air, and basically any and all performance upgrades as possible
It has 99,000 miles on it... is very clean and ran very good up until a few weeks ago. Apparently, the upon accelerating from a stop light very slowly, the car shut off and would not crank.
The local mechanic said the engine was seized. So it looks like I have to take the motor out. Fun, fun, fun. :) :cheerl:

Hey Dan....I guess your everywhere! I'm RJ and this is kinda funny.......I just needed four doors and a steering wheel and that is how I bought my 1st Chrysler made car. It was a 2000 Dodge Intrepid w/ 2.7l engine.....jsut a plain white boring 4 door sedan. It was only running on 5 cylinders and the check engine light was on.......that was the condition I bought it in Dec 2006......I didn't know anything about the 2.7 problems. So the handy mechanic I am I brought it home and 2 days later solved the problems on the car.....I was happy now. Then 3 weeks later my wifes car died for good not worth bring back to life........so that was the last time i got to driver my 2000 intrepid again as my wife just kinda took the key and that was the last i saw it until March of 2009. My wife got a new mini van and I findly got my Intrepid back.....of coarse with 3 kids and car seats in the backseat for almost 3 years....and the way she drives.....now the car was looking pretty sorry!!!!! it had this god awfal stinch coming from the back seat. I though maybe I'll trade it in for a new Charger......That wasn't in the budget so I decided well maybe I will just fix it up and keep it for a while.....THAT IS HOW THE PROJECT BEGAN AND MANY MODS LATER!!!!
