You know I'm getting a little p-off at my Husband. He wants me to find a car I like. Yes I found a car and it was Avenger Se 4 cyl. Inferno red. He wants to only pay around $17,000 something.I told him with 6 it would about $21,000 with big options. He wants now a six and I told him the price. He says go and see if a dealer will give me a good price. I don't think it'll happen. Since there are no cars on a lot around here for 100 miles like I want. I don't want too many add ons. I doubt you can make deal with an ordered car. I hear at the end of the month is a good time to bargain. I know I sound negative. I might just say "I 'll keep my old Daytona and fix the rust" lol What pain in the butt. I already went around and all I get is that they have to make money too which is true. I know of an incentive for the Avenger at least that's something. If he picks out a soccer Mom car he's driving it lol Sorry Soccer Moms. Going from my Daytona to that is torture lol No I won't do it, HELP LOL
All these sites say "Negotiate" Ya right lol Thanks for listening lol

It has been my experience that a lot of the newer cars (Ones that have just came out) or are in high demand are harder to negotiate the prices with. Cars that have been sitting on the lot of a while are easier to work with. Our dealership wont ever work with you on the price :(. On other cars I have had no problem (No matter what time of the month). It just takes time to get them down to where you want.

That's what I thought. Thanks for the reply. If a car has been sitting for a longtime, Then you can proably make a deal I heard. No chance with what I want. lol

It definitely depends on the car and dealership. I was able to negotiate mine down $1000, only because that certain dealership sells mostly fleet to companies and has a hard time selling new cars to individuals. If you're trading a car in.. you can DEFINATELY negotiate that one. They will first give you a real rip off price to see if you take the bait.

Thanks. Do you think keeping tabs and looking during the holidays like Memorial day weekend would be a good thing?

I was able to negotiate my SXT V6 with lots of goodies. Don't worry, a good dealer will negotiate. They don't make money on cars sitting in their lot.

The Avenger has been out for over 3 months, the shortage is over.

Dodge is offering a $500 rebate if you finance through Chrysler.

Good luck!

Hi, I appreciate the help. Thank you. So would you say it's true that maybe at the end of the month might be good to talk prices? Maybe I should keep checking around the holidays? I read where you can't talk down a price if you order a car. Yes thanks you about the rebate. I had mentioned that to a dealer and he said no there weren't any. I said I seen it a few times on the internet. He still was trying to convince me there's no rebate for me. I think you and I know better! lol I guess he's off the list. Hahaha

I think it depends on the dealer and also the how long the car has been out. I was able to get mine down about $1000 and a free installed remote start on an R/T which I had to order due to color. But I ordered it in February before the car was even advertised, the dealers didn't even have brochures on it yet and I think dealers were just looking to get some on the road. Good luck to you, theres nothing wrong in trying to get a good deal and it never hurts to ask.

Thanks. It's a bit discouraging when my husband says find the car you like, Not over $20,000 and then you show him the car. Then he says try to get a good price. I've had it. I may keep my old Daytona I've had for 16 years after all lol

My best advice is use the internet.... then take it with you. Find rebates at, dodge.com then print it out.
If you're trading in the Daytona, go to KBB.com, or edmunds.com and print out what it's worth. If you set a paper in front of them with a price on it, they have a hard time arguing it. A lot of dealerships will try to give you auction price for your trade. Don't take it.
As for the price of the Avenger. Offer them $300 over invoice, but demand to see the invoice. Then they still make money, and you don't get hosed.
I bought a '97 Mustang GT convertible in '97. I was so specific about what I wanted the dealer had to trade another dealership in Indiana (I live in Ohio), to get the one with the options I wanted. I got it for $100 over invoice, but I had to go to several dealers to find one that would make the deal. They all told me "This car will sell itself. We don't need to deal on it that much". Just be patient, and be willing to walk away from it, and go to another dealer. You will find a dealer that wants to sell a car. It's just a little harder to make the deal when you want something popular. I got my Ram cheap, with very little effort..... probably because it's not a "Hemi" (I love my 4.7L).

Good luck with your Avenger hunting. It's always a pain buying a new car/truck, but it's worth it when it's all said and done.

Thanks very much. I have a question: A dealer was telling me that MSRP was the invoice. He said "This is the invoice" I showed him what I found online about the invoice price and showed the MSRP price. I imagine he was trying to say maybe the invoice is included in the MSRP. But still he was saying that I was wrong.

No!!!! Good for you, for not falling for that.
MSRP is the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price. Two key words here are Suggested, and Retail. That is the price that Dodge is recommending the car/truck sells for. Retail is always marked up above actual dealer cost. The invoice is what the car/truck cost the dealer (which many people say they get it for less than invoice, but who knows for sure). Anyway, invoice will usually be a few thousand less than retail, depending on the value of the car/truck (obviously a Hummer is marked up more than a ranger).

Good for you!

My "loaded" SXT V6 has a MSRP of $24,935, the Invoice is $23,615. They were trying to give you the royal screw.

The basic SXT is MSRP is $19,120 & Invoice is $17,733.

Any dealer that won't show you an inventory sheet is trying to make a hugh profit from you.

Now in defense of the dealers, profits are VERY slim on new cars. Their used cars and repair shop keep them in business.

A couple quick points that might clear up some misconceptions.....

Mark-up on most of the newer Chrysler products is minimal. There might be only about a $1000 between MSRP and invoice on a lower priced Avenger, for example. Then there is dealer holdback, which is a few hundred bucks. So there is not a tremendous amount of room there in this case, like there would be on say, a Jeep Commander or a diesel Ram 2500 truck. Keep in mind websites like Edmonds.com show "invoice prices" that have the dealer holdback already deducted. Most dealers do not - and really shouldn't - give up the dealer holdback, which means Edmonds' info is often incorrect and misleading.

There are also no rebates or incentives on the Avenger yet, so even if the dealer sells you the car at invoice or below, you are still paying relatively close to the MSRP. The bright side is the car is still better equipped at a lower price than most of its competitors, especially the Accord and Camry.

Someone mentioned profits on new vehicles being minimal, and that is an understatement. Many "Big Three" dealers consistently run their new car department at a loss to be competitive. Yes, the factory does give money back to the dealers that hit or exceed their objectives. But these days the real money is made in F&I, parts, and service, and on sales of used vehicles.

Thanks for the info. I can imagine if someone were to get the wrong info on the internet and argue the fact with a dealer that could be very embarrassing. lol

What do you think about this one : There's a dealer who had an ad in the paper 2 weeks in a row that they had Dodge Avengers for $16,999. I assume that's a 4 cylinder ofcourse. I've gone by the dealership just to see if there were any and I never see them on the lot. I bet that's just to get people on the lot or maybe I'm wrong.

Here's a dealer incentive I found for the Avenger (base model) http://www-5.dodge.com/incentives/IncentivesController.do Well this link doesn't work right. If you click 2008 on the dealers incentive page it's there.I just thought of something, Maybe it's only the New England area since I did put a my zip code in.

If they advertise it, they MUST legally have at least one. That's not to say that it couldn't sell by the time the add printed. So they may have a ST with a 4 cyl on the lot for $17k. They say "hey this will at least get people talking to us, or look at our website", so they advertise it in the paper (or internet). Then later that day, or the next day, or whenever... it sells. Now they can't very well cancel the add in the paper, because a lot of those items are printed well in advance (my wife works for the paper, and I always know what's going to be on sale NEXT week). So the add runs with that sale, even though the car has already sold. If the dealer is listing cars they never had for prices they won't sell at, that is a bait, and switch, and there are laws against it. So they probably did have it at some point.

Not correct: running 0% to 6% and $500.00 cash.
My car came in today & I got 0% for 36 months.
There was mistake with TV ad for $500.00 cash.
Suppose to be one or the other but not both. I got both!

I got my car for invoice $29,675
I loaded the car to $31,650 so I got almost $2,000 off.
Then again my trade should of been $42,000 not $40,000.
So in end I got my $42,000 for trade & really got zip off on 08 Dodge.

We got my Wifes RT for 24,900. With leather heated seats and preferred package 26s and the 18" chrome aloys.Paid sticker price. We was looking at the Nitro and wife decided she wanted an Avenger but like the one she seen on Dodges web site omg. She seen a black RT. The dealer didnt have any Avengers on the lot so I said call me when you get one. He called 3 days later. We just unloaded a Black and a silver one. Went down the next morning and there it was lo and behold a Black RT just like she wanted. I tried for a better price but they wouldnt come off of it. None of the other dealers had any as well and they knew it. So I took a beating and paid sticker. But I recovered some on the trade.

I see I'm not the only girl that wants to drive something sharp. lol Ya it's hard to negotiate, I think I should have my husband with me. Not That I can't do it myself, I think that maybe when they have to deal with two people maybe I stand a better chance on some things. Maybe two people dealing against one may work better. We'll see.
