I took my 2002 Grand Caravan Sport 3.3L FFV to the dealership for a rough idle condition and they diagnosed and high RPM mis-fire. So they suggest new plugs at a cost of $199 and ans induction clean at $125. What a joke. But my question is that he also said they would reset the computer after the plug change. What is involved in this and what does resetting the computer actually accomplish after a full change of plugs. I can do the plugs myself at a grand total of around $30 plus my time. And are there any issues I may run into if I don't get the computer reset after they are changed.

Thanks a million.

Bob

The back plugs can be a challenge-- I did mine by feel, although another guy on here said he took off the windshield wiper unit and had good access (that is a great idea-- wish I'd thought of it.)

The computer learns the operating parameters of the engine as you go, so it is a good idea to reset it when you change the plugs or make any other similar change. This will accelerate the process of the computer learning the new parameters with the new plugs, but it is not necessary. The dealer would probably reset by using a DRB III scan tool, but you can just disconnect the battery and turn on the key for 60 seconds before reconnecting. That will also reset the computer.

The computer will relearn all by itself. Every time you start your car from a cold start and drive it at least 30 mph for 10-15 mins, it will start to average in the new readings. At about 10 starts, you'll be as good as new.

Thanks for the replies guys. I really appreciate it. I will post back after the swap to let you know how it works out.
