I need to clear the airbag light on my 2005 dodge gr caravan. I replaced the front bumper sensors. How do I clear out the codes?

I think they'll clear themselves after enough starts if the problem is fixed--but I'm not sure. Otherwise you need a scan tool that can clear airbag codes-- those are the expensive ones.

Easiest thing to try would be to drive in Autozone, Advance Auto and have them try and erase it for free, though, it might be one of those they cant do. Dealer might have to. You could also try disconnecting the battery but I kinda doubt that would work, it seems to be a hard code.

Walmart sells a gr8 obd scanner for about $100.00 that's alot cheaper than paying to clear codes at dealer, and that model works excellent............gl

I don't think an ordinary OBDII scanner will clear airbag codes. It will only clear drivetrain codes.

This is a very common problem for this year van. Both of mine went out due to corrosion, one of which was outside of the warranty. You should file a complaint on the NHTSA website. There are already several up there. If there are enough, Chrysler will have to order a recall and they will reimburse you. Let us know how you clear the light...I'm sure that this issue will occur in the next couple of years, and I'll have to fix it myself.

I am having the same problem with my 2005 grand caravan. The air bag light came on, then the check engine light came on. My mechainic cleared the check engine light but said I would have to make an appointment for the airbag light. Then the cruise control would suddenlt quit now it doesn't work at all.

You're in luck, that's likely a clockspring lifetime warranty replacement! Make an appointment with your local dealer and it's done for free. When the cruise control , airbag light and or horn stop working it's the clockspring. Also, go to chrysler's site and type in your vin to see if you're eligible.

When I looked up the TSB for the clock spring repair for my 97, I thought that it said the repair was limited to vehicles with less than 70,000 miles on them.

I believe it does mention 70K in some term, but nonetheless it's a lifetime repair.

Thanks for the tip. I'll hit up my local Dodge dealer and see if I can't get it done for free before I mess with it myself, it's worth a try at least.

kabhatti, just want to say thanks again for the tip. Indeed, the recall covers replacement on all vehicles with 70,000 or less, but also gives a lifetime warranty to all vehicles, so if you have more than 70,000 you can't just get the thing replaced for the heck of it, but you can get it replaced if it is malfunctioning. My local dealer is not only taking care of the clockspring, but they also told me that there are two other recalls outstanding on my van, and they are going to take care of all three at one time for me.
