I have an '88 D-150 with a 318 in it and the tranny went out a couple days ago. I don't know what exact transmission it has on it since I can't find any numbers on it. Anyway, what would be the best a.t. to put on there? :help:

Check the equipment label that is stuck to the underside of the hood. This may tell you what transmission you have. Hopefully the label is still there.
More than likely you have the A-999 transmission, but you could have the A-727, A-904, or A-998
The A-727 is the strongest.

I agree with VanMan, the Equipment Tag is underhood with various codes (mostly letters like DMD,etc,.) as a prefix next to the "3speed auto trans" wording. I've gone as far as peeling that label off trucks in junkyards and going online, or to the dealer on the phone to verifiy which trans, rear gear ratio, original engine, and such.It WILL save you time. The 727 is most desirable, but sticking with what Mother Mopar put there in the first place is usually best.
