How does the Magnum R/T compare to the Charger R/T?
Does the added 91 lbs really make that much of a performace difference?

Technically yes, in a day-to-day situation, no. Both will pull like they're hooked to a freight train. Mechanicallyl they are identical, the interior forward of the rear seats is the same, and with the 07's you can even get about all the same options for either.
If you planned on drag racing them then the Charger would probably win by a small margin but you'd be hard pressed to notice it outside of that situation. Otherwise it comes down to personal choice and need. The Magnum has more room for stuff but the sloped rear hinders visibility and the rear glass is impossible to keep clean. Charger doesn't have the wagon stigma and comes in a few different packages (like the Daytona). Beyond that it's all about which one you like the looks of more. Of course on this thread the answer will be kind of one sided. I see it as a choice between a hot rod (Magnum) or muscle car (Charger). Pick your poison!

Was on the NYS thruway a few weeks ago and started playing with a guy in a Charger SRT-8. Man I had trouble keeping up with him in my puny R/T. I had sweetie in the car and had to let him go.

personal pref.if it wasn't for the 300/magnum that other car probably wouldn't have got built!sorry it's not a charger to me it's just a 4 door sedan with magnum interior.i had a guy pull up along side me with his 4door sedan r/t,he wanted race i couldn't even be bothered to acknowledge that he was there and he was doing what he could to get my attention.sorry but i can't stand the 4 door sedan!!

I've got the Magnum RT. It's nice to have the extra room in the back. Putting it to the floor is a blast, and with the better half in the car and the back full of stuff, it's fun to piss off the Mustangs that can't pull away from me.....and that was on 89 octane! With 91 octane the Mustang would have to get out of the way!!!

best thing to happen to me was the guy who bought the charger just because i was interested in it. the wifey liked it. after seeing the concept i was disapointed in a 4 door charger, just like the gto. luckily i waited untill my gm found me a nice mag rt , same color as charger rt but the mag had all the bells and whistles, changer navi sunroof etc. im old school, 55 chevy, and the mag is closest thing to the nomad. glad i didnt get the charger

Excellent reply.
Having owned both, all I have to add is that, the only noticeable thing, and I think you will only notice it if you go from a Charger to a Magnum like I did, is that there is a slightly higher level of road noise coming from the back of the Magnum. This is a logical difference between one vehicle having a trunk and the other one a cargo area. But after like a week, I didn't notice it.
I'd like to add, though, that just as the rear glass does tend to get dirty on the Magnum, the same thing happens with the rear trunklid fascia and bumper surface on the Charger. Just minor annoyances though, IMHO...
