I bought bherder's "old" dash pad, and HE TOLD ME ~ Be sure you cover it with a mexican blanket when you get it in..........
MY QUESTION IS: How in the heck am I supposed to drive it if I can't see the steering wheel or the gauges??? And how do I get to the glove box ????
Reach under the blanket for steering wheel, don't worry about the guages and just use the passenger side floor instead of the glove box. See, very simple solution. LOL :gr_patrio

Hey hey hey....! The rumors are false! ;)
(I've actually been out working on Dodges .... Serpintine belt on my kid's Caravan, and restoration ... light bar and bed .. on the Powerwagon)
Hey Rick, didn't think you needed instructions, but here ya go...
Grasp dash pad firmly with two hands.
Install by inserting plastic legs through holes.
Try to get speednuts started on plastic legs. Cuss at the speednuts.
Try again to get speednuts started on plastic legs. Cuss and throw wrench.
Once speednuts are started, have large roll of paper towls to soak up blood from cutting your hands up on all the sharp metal edges.
Tighten up speednuts. Cuss some more. Scratch your head wondering how they ever put it together in the first place. Cuss and kick dog.
Once speednuts are securly fastened, drink sixpack of beer and swear you'll never do that again.
There? See how simple it is? :D

Funny you guys should be talking about that. As I am working on getting the "old" PW in shape to hall my ATV, or pull the mule trailer i got to thinking at 70 years old I should have some way of communicating with the rest of the world should I ever get into a jam I can't get out of when I am off out in the mountains all by my self, soooooo I am about ready to take the ham test myself. Only thing is that we live so far from "nowhere it is hard to find anybody to give the test. Will be taking it in late May or early June clear down in Yuma (150 miles) which is the closest testing facility.
Just bought This One (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220103927230) to put in the PW as my starter rig. Please take a look and tell me what you think of it.
My Brother says he thinks it will be a fairly good one for the price. He has been a ham for 60 years, he is partial to Kenwood. His call sign is K6TIB....

he he he I feel your pain on those speed nuts and blood bherder, when i changed out my 73 i just said piss on it and velcro'd it on to the metal...actually it was nice for access. I have always wondered how they did this at the factory. I saw one pic where a guy was installing the complete dash with a robo-tool at the factory.

Actually, I didn't have any problems at all, the speed nuts went on just fine, and not one scratch on my hands......Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I am "old as dirt" and the good dash genie looked after me :)
