Here are a few pictures I took of my two Dodge Trucks. A little bit of what I an doing to help answering my questions. I have a 72' D100 with a 360/auto in it. My motor went south on me and the trans had been slipping. So, I found a 78' ClubCab Dodge Prospector with a 360/auto with ONLY 63k miles. I planed on swapping the motor and trans over into my 72' but when I got the truck here yesterday I noticed the transmissions are different.

1.Is it possible to swap the tail housings and tail shafts on these two transmissions to complete the fit? Or, will have to get a drive shaft made to fit my application?

2. I also need the rear-end out of the 78' because the one in my 72' has a lot of play in it. I am enclosing a picture of the rear-end in the 78'. What kind of rear-end is this?

The first picture of the transmissions is the short one in the 78' and the last picture is the one in my 72' :help:

You'll need to use your old long tail trans. You could have a custom shaft made, but it'll be real long.

And that's an 8.25 Chrysler rear end.

No way to swap the tail shafts and housing?

Rebuilding the long tail trans would be best.....?

You could swap tails, but why? The whole trans would have to be tore down pretty much, so you might as well go ahead and build the long tail and you'll have a brand new trans to boot.

Didn't know the whole thing would have to be torn down. I will build the long tailed one. I guess I have a short one with 63k miles for sale lol

Thanks for your help

BTW that short tail w/ the bolt-on yoke is the heavy duty trans, they used it in motorhomes and such. My club Cab has one too.

Whats a good heavy duty trans with 63k miles worth? I'll sell it to get a rebuild kit for my long tail trans.

Thanks for the info
