:rck: Hello all..forum newbie here. I have a 1986 Dodge truck with a 318 out of a 1970 Dodge Dart. We recently went in and replaced main bearings, cam bearings, rod bearings, cam, lifters, intake, timing chain and carb. The original carb was a 2 bbl, we went up to a Edelbrock 650 cfm 4 bbl. But now my throttle cable and kickdown linkage don't fit right. They hangup on each other and there isn't but about 2 inches of pedal travel. So I'm only using 2 bbls, and maxing out at 60 mph. I ordered a throttle extension for the carb and some sort of bracket for the side of the carb that Jegs said I needed. For the life of me and 2 other mechanics we don't know how the bracket goes on. The extension gets hung up too, so I took it off. Any ideas how I can get my truck back into operation?

on mine i took a peice of strapping metal buy homedepot cheap bolted where org. throttle bracket was but extened it 2 inches closer to carb then put a bolt+nut there bolted the cable there bolt the metal part of cable not the plactic coating or it'll bind wish i could send a pic. works good if you don't have a 3 peice passinggear rod you'll have to get one seen em on ebay or do like i did and get a lokar cable from summit price was like 52 bucks +shipping hope this helps i've changed 5 dodges from 2 to 4's always used the strapping had no problems

when you get a few more posts under your belt, post up some pics of your ride ...

I hope to get an older truck one of these years ..

What you should do is go to a junkyard and find a Dodge pickup of the same era (say 80-86) with a factory 4bbl. set-up. Grap the kickdown linkage and bracket and also the throttle cable. This may be all you need.

+1 Get a factory 4bbl linkage setup. Although, I'm inclined to think you got other problems if you're maxing at 60. Probably you don't have the kickdown set right and it's staying in 1st or 2nd. Or you got 6.28 gears :)

I could kick myself for not thinking about that. Tomorrow after work I'll go scowering through the local junkyard. If that doesn't work about an hour north of here is a junkyard called FM600. It's one of the largest junkyards in Texas. Between the two of them I should be able to find a bracket that works. I will post some pics soon. Thanks for the direction!!

Thank you Nate, I found a bracket and kickdown linkage for a 4bbl setup. It came off of an 83 truck in the local junkyard, the only one they had. Got everything hooked up in about 15 min, fired it up and sweet beautiful Mopar music. Now my mystery is my speedometer isn't working and neither is my back up lights. Hopefully a quick fix..it needs an inspection sticker so I can enjoy this truck again before adding or changing something else. Thank you again Nate, I will get some pictures on here soon.
