I have a 1987 dodge w-100 4wd. I recently replaced the motor, tranny and transfer case. Now the 4wd light stays on, it is a 727 tranny and a 208 transfer case. There is no electrical wires to the transfer case just 4 vacum hoses, My question is what turns the light on? There is no switch on the shifter for the 4wd. I am puzzled the light stays on even when in 2wd. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

There should be some wires running to it, or either to the vacuum switch on the front end, maybe.

I rewired a 4wd light once, when my friend found a new dash at the wreckers.
Took an old brake light switch from an International Eagle I had lying around and used it on a bracket. So when your in 4 high or 4 low it hits the switch but misses it in 2wd.
These switches are cool cause they use a ball bearing and are sealed. Meant to be mounted near the foot pedals/floor.... Hasn't been any problems yet. I use it to compleate the ground on the indicator light circuit. :)

after checking the wires, and checking the vacum hoses, I found the vacum valve on the transfer case had the ball stuck. replaced it with the one off my old case and it works fine. Thanks for all the help guys, I've learned alot.
