What is needed to convert to power steering on a 73 D100? I have front disc brakes. My son wants me to put power brakes on it for him before he gets home in June.

Power steering pump w/ brackets and lines, and a power steering box.

wrecking yard pieces all of them

the steering column might be different between armstrong steering and power steering however so bear that in mind

Vacuum booster, check valve, hose/nipple running to the intake... whatever linkage you may need between the pedal and booster...

(As Acton sez) these are junkyard parts also... And don't worry about having 85' calipers on the rig... The hydralics will be the same as the same as the same... In other words, if they work fine now with a 73' 'manual' master cylinder, they'll be fine with a 'vacuum assisted' 73' master cylinder..

You'll probably need a different master cyl too, I think power and manual use different masters.

What about the rod that goes from the brake pedal to the MC or Power Brake Booster?

Not sure, maybe. What I did was just take the whole master/booster assy out of a '85, rod and all, and swapped it in.

What about the rod that goes from the brake pedal to the MC or Power Brake Booster?

That's why I said 'Whatever linkage'... etc... ;)

IF.... I remember correctly, manual brakes have an adjustable linkage, power brakes do not...

If you pull the booster off a wreck, just keep whatever linkages will be attached to it ;)

Although, I MAY BE WRONG, I think the MC is going to be the same thing... The only differences I've seen for brakes in the 70's is when they went from the 4-bolt cast iron MC to the 2-bolt aluminum body/plastic reservoir MC...

Speed may be right, however.... There may be a difference in MC diameter sizes.

I might suggest that you do a partsamerica or napa search on our rigs ranging from early to late 70's... See if the part number changes :D

I just got a replacement m.c. for my '73 W100 with power brakes and we discussed whether or not there is a different m.c. for power brakes versus manual in a thread here a few weeks ago: http://www.dodgetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145432&page=2

Basically, some manufacturers and some vendors seem to be listing their master cylinders for this truck as "with power brakes" or "manual brakes." But some don't. And in some cases, such as NAPA, the separate listings appeared to be the same product.

I ended up buying a Bendix 11323, which appears to be identical to what is in my truck now. Here's the Bendix:

Here's a link to where I ordered it: http://www.partsamerica.com/productdetail.aspx?MfrCode=BEN&MfrPartNumber=11323

I haven't installed it yet, but hope to do so this week, I'll let you know how it goes. As far as I can tell, though, the same master cylinder is used for both power and manual--according to the FSM, the only difference is the special push rod that's part of the booster unit. See the thread mentioned earlier for more details.

p.s. Here's a link to Bendix's own description of this m.c.--says nothing about power or manual, which seems to affirm that the same m.c. can be used for both: http://www.power-21.com/honeywellpower21i/PartDetail.aspx?b=B&pn=11323

The booster assembly should have the pedal linkage attached to it. (They do on the vans)
Be aware that Dodge used 4 bolt and 2 bolt master cylinders and I have seen both types on drum or disc brakes, boosted and manual brakes so there is not a particular on for each... It seems to do with what was in the parts bin at the time the truck was built.

Correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't the booster and MC depend on the rating of the front axel?? Such as a 3500 lb or a 4500lb axle??

I have seen them in almost every configuration on vans including hydro-boost. You could be right in regard to trucks.
