I have a 1979 1/2 ton powerwagon and I need to replace the wheel cylinders is there anything I ought to be watching out for or any common problems with doing this?

Nope, should be pretty straight forward, as long as it's not too rusty.

if you are changing the wheel cylinders, change the rubber flex hoses while youb are at it
and be sure to use a flare wrench or you will bugger the heads on the fittings

Welcome to Dodgetalk
the only thing I would say is you will need a second person to pump and hold the pedal when you bleed the brakes and I agree about using a flare wrench on the fittings.
If you cant get the bolts holding the wheel cylinders loose use some PB Blaster on them to try and break them free ... one thing about PB Blaster it will eat rubber and keep that stuff away from the pads and rotors or drums
