Hey guys i picked ups a 1986 D150 last winter, and im starting to notice somethings. It is olny a 3.7l L6. Now what i am noticing is im not getting any horse power when i need it, especially off roading and passing. Im thinking it has something to do with my carb. It seems tired. If you can help me out that would be cool.

Thanks

CHECK YOUR TIMING! If at an idle your 6 is at 12 deg then have someone rev it up and see how far the timing moves it shold be about 30 deg at 3500 rpm mine only move 4 deg but mine is messed up if it only move within 10 deg off of 12 deg check your distributor and check if there are 2 different plugs going to it if not your in the same hole as me

Nobody sells 2bbl manifolds for it... except the junkyards ;) You can, however buy a 4bbl intake, and occasionally the odd dual single-bbl intake. Headers, cams are both available. And there's always nitrous :D

yea im pretty damn sure that my biggest problem is the carb, i also been running into problems where after i leave my truck for a few hours ill come back to it and my throttle will be screwed up like floorded, im pretty sure its just really tired!

what do you think if i were just throw a really nice one barrel on it?

try to see if stromberg makes one for your application
check your throttle return sensor its located on the back of the carberator

I'm sure if you put a good rebuilt or a new single-bbl carb on it, you'd be fine. 2bbl will have more power though.

yea i found a real nice holley 1 barrel, for pretty cheap money, and i think im going to through a performance air cleaner on top of it The throttle return sensor and throttle on my old stock carb are both very very tired!

If you guys can give me some websites to get parts from, or a nicer carb post them up. The Price of the Holley 1 barrel im looking at now is 179.99

A "performance" air cleaner will do nothing for you, except lok pretty. You'd be better to keep the stocker and run a cold air intake tube up to it from the front somewhere. Actually they had those from the factory, but most of them are lost by now :)

If you just want it to run good, grab the Holley. If you want power though, you need to pick up a 2bbl. You can probably buy the whole setup, carb/intake/exhaust mani off a car in the j-yard for what you'll pay for that new Holley 1bbl.

id say the cheaspest way would be the j yard but if you want to spent time and maybe less money id say get a rebuild kit and send some WD-40 through the cable hose as for the floored effect id check all the choke stuff
