Hey guys, what all is involved in putting a 318 Magnum under the hood of my 79 D150 (it already has the old school 318)? Will I need a tranny adapter for the engine to my 727? Any other issues? Motor Mounts?

Nope, it'll bolt right up. You'll need a carb intake for a Magnum, LA's are different. Mopar and Edelbrock both make intakes for them. I believe even the stock exh mani's will fit.

If/When I do it, I'm gonna run EFI and headers with custom exhaust:D

In that case snag the cpu (computer) and the entire harness from the donor truck.
also if your running custom exhaust, you may need to purchase a programmer to eliminate the o2 sensor tuning already set at factory default on the computer...
At least that is what I would plan on for this swap... :dunno:

Or... you could just go this route...
Edelbrock Performer RPM Pro-Flo EFI System from Summit
probably your easiest bet... but not cheap....

Only $2,719.95

Except I paid $200 for my complete 5.2l Jeep Grand Cherokee :rck: If I end up not using the jeep I would definately find another 5.2l Magnum vehicle as a donor vehicle

Hey, i just got done swapping my 77 w100 with a 97 5.2. There was alot of mods i had to do to get that engine in there. I bolted it to my np435 so i had to modify the bell housing for the crank position sensor. I had to get a 97 flywheel. I am sure you will have to do the same but with a flex plate unless you grabbed it off of the jeep. I adapted all the wiring from the 97 to the 77 truck. You have to use electrical gauges for the pcm, get the speed sensor. As far as the o2 sensors, all you need is the forward one and just make a holder for the aft one. The only thing the aft one does is monitor your cat to make sure that it is working. If you are going without a cat then you dont need it. If you get a set of shorties headers or summit, it wil be a tight fit on the left side of the frame. Make a heat sheild for the power booster because the header nuked mine. If you are using the stock radiator, you might have to get flex line or make your own hose. I could not find any that would fit right. Thats pretty much all that i can think of for now. If you have any questions let me know. I went through the whole thing and she runs great now. If you want pics let me know. Good luck

Wow that info is really helpful. Looks harder than I thought, but I think I can handle it when the time comes. I wonder how the transmission will work with mine, since I will have it bolted to a 727

You mean... One day when she's not looking, I could yank the engine right out of my wife's B2500 and plop it right in my PW???

Hmmmm.... What should I tell her when she says the engine won't start?

;)

How about something that doesn't cost ME... $$ ;)

I mean, couldn't I tell her the engine-pixies came and stole it while I was under the influence of Pixie-Whiskey and it's not my fault and all that?

:D

Well, you could always lay down beside it, w/ a made-up black eye, and tell her when she comes out in the morning someone hit you over the head last night and stole it :D Make sure insurance covers it first ;)
