Hi,

I was wondering...

My '99 Van ( 3.9L V6 ) has a standard 3-speed auto trans ( No O/D selector ).
Right now when I start I feel a shift at 10-15 mph ( from 1th to 2nd ), another at 25 mph ( from 2nd to 3rd ) and also one at approx 35 mph... ( 3rd to ??? or is it the Lock-up? )
Is it correct that this gear stays when I speed up till e.g. 75 mph?

Does anyone know which rpm value this is?

Is it bad for the engine to maintain speeding at 75 mph ( here in Belgium, the max speed limit on highways is 120 kilometres/h = 75 mph ),
or does it make the engine thirsty...??? :VHOT:

By the way... what is the avarage consommation of your 3.9L engines??

Thanks!

Grtz,

Xavier :wavey:

The shift speeds are in the right range and either the second or third shift is the convertor locking-up. The 32rh transmission (also known as the A-999 has a lockup convertor.
You need to know the rear tire size and axle ratio to calculate rpm at a given speed.
There is a thread that has mpg various vanners are getting.. I would search it out to find what others are getting.

I get awesome mpg or kpg while driving 45-50mph. At 55-65mph it talks a hit on fuel economy. I've only had it a few times up around 70mph, never over that. It drinks down the fuel tooooo fast.

after 70 mph with mine, gas mileage goes thru the floorboard, ~12.5-13.5 mpg on average.
